ESA seeks a highly motivated
Archaeologist
in the
Seattle area
with
5+ years of experience
performing cultural resources surveys, testing, data recovery, and monitoring, recordation of archaeological resources, and preparing environmental permit applications and supporting documentation. Candidates must be located in and/or around the Seattle, Washington Metropolitan area for on-site field work. The ideal candidate will be available to work a hybrid schedule from ESA's Seattle office.
Who You Are
ESA is seeking a qualified mid-level Archaeologist to manage projects within our Northwest Cultural Resources Group, working with interdisciplinary teams across various sectors.
You should have excellent technical, writing, management, and organizational skills; experience with agency coordination, NEPA/SEPA, Section 106, and tribal resources; proficiency in records searches; and experience leading archaeological surveys and evaluations. GIS skills are a plus.
You must hold a graduate degree in archaeology or related field, possess SOI qualifications, and be capable of leading survey crews and producing detailed reports. Ability to work collaboratively and deliver projects on time and within budget is essential.
Preference for candidates who can mentor junior staff and have a solid understanding of project management principles.
You should enjoy fieldwork, be physically capable of long walks, lifting at least 40 pounds, and working outdoors in various environments and weather conditions. Fieldwork may occur up to one week per month.
A valid driver's license and experience driving off-road 4WD vehicles are required.
Writing samples may be requested during the interview process.
What You Will Do for ESA
Manage and conduct archaeological assessments and surveys independently.
Lead archaeological components of multidisciplinary projects.
Conduct archival research, develop contexts, document resources, and evaluate impacts in compliance with regulations.
Serve as the primary author of assessment reports.
Work with minimal supervision on most tasks, with guidance on complex issues.
Supervise small project teams and participate in client meetings.
Prepare scopes of work and budgets for projects and tasks.
Collaborate with senior staff and partners to support environmental and permit processes.
Work with specialists from other disciplines and incorporate their findings into reports.

Compensation Range:
$83,473 — $104,341 USD, determined by experience, education, skills, and location.
