The Opportunity: This position works out of our Portland, OR location in the Heart Failure Division. In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. In this role, you will analyze requests from various engineering groups and modify existing equipment, or conceptualize, design, and create new special purpose equipment to support the needs of Manufacturing, or Research and Development departments. Emphasis is given to concept of design and effective project planning and results. What You’ll Work On: Initiate and complete technical activities leading to new or improved products or process, for current programs next generation programs and to meet strategic goals and objectives of the company. Prepare reports, publish, and make presentations to communicate findings. Analyze and solve problems from basic engineering principles, theories and concepts through to a wide range of complex and advanced problems which require novel and new innovative approaches or a major breakthrough in technology. Understand engineering principles theories, concepts, practices and techniques. Develop knowledge in a field to become a recognized leader or authority in an area of specialization and apply this knowledge in leadership roles in the company. Incorporate business policies and procedures into task completion. Understand the business needs of the company, and have a thorough knowledge of the customer and clinical needs of our business. Understand the business cycle and foresight of emerging technologies trends. Cultivate internal and external network of resources to complete tasks. May lead a project team, determining goals and objectives for the projects. Mentor employees by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering field. 9+ years of related experience. Preferred Qualifications: Electrical Components experience. PLC Programming.
