Overview Join a high-performance delivery team developing and maintaining applications for the Census Bureau. As a Senior Software Developer, you will play a key role in maintaining and modernizing data visualization web applications that provide critical economic data to the public. You’ll work across the software development lifecycle, contributing to both backend architecture and frontend interfaces, while integrating secure, maintainable, and mission-critical solutions that align with Census Bureau’s operational needs. Location: Suitland, MD (Hybrid - 3 Days On-Site). Clearance: U.S. Citizenship Required; Public Trust Eligible. Client: Census Bureau.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications using Python, HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.

Build and optimize database solutions using PostgreSQL.

Deploy and manage applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems.

Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, and other developers to gather requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.

Ensure application security, performance, and scalability.

Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across the full stack.

Write and maintain clear technical documentation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

5+ years of professional software development experience.

Strong proficiency with Python for application development.

Hands-on experience with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS for front-end development.

Experience with Vue and open-source UI libraries (Dojo, Dijit, OpenLayers, D3, jQuery, and Bootstrap).

Solid experience working with PostgreSQL, including query optimization and database design.

Expertise in developing and deploying applications in a RHEL environment.

Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).

Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Experience migrating applications to the cloud.

Qualifications

Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue).

Experience with CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies.

Knowledge of RESTful API design and development.

Familiarity with security best practices for web applications and databases.

Knowledge of cloud architectures and best practices for web applications.

Experience modernizing legacy applications for migration to cloud environments.
