Project Engineer - Charlotte Metro (Hybrid)
We are seeking a Project Engineer with a background in mechanical system design to join a growing industrial equipment manufacturer. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design, analysis, and delivery of large-scale equipment systems supporting heavy industrial and infrastructure applications.
Position Summary The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design and engineering of custom mechanical systems and components, including material handling equipment, rotating machinery, and electro-mechanical assemblies. The role involves preparing calculations, reviewing vendor information, supporting 2D/3D CAD work, and collaborating with project managers, manufacturing teams, and clients to ensure projects are executed successfully from concept through installation.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and review engineering calculations for structural and mechanical components (e.g., weldments, assemblies, shafts, bearings, drives, gearboxes).
Prepare and check submittals, technical reports, and calculation summaries for internal and client review.
Create, review, and maintain drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation in CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
Review vendor catalog data, cut sheets, and specifications for compliance with project requirements.
Provide technical support during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning, including occasional site visits for field measurements, troubleshooting, or start-up support.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, industry standards, and internal engineering practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, designers, and shop floor personnel, to deliver high-quality equipment systems on time and within budget.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
5+ years of experience in mechanical/electro-mechanical equipment design, project engineering, or a related environment.
Proficiency with 3D/2D CAD tools (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred).
Solid understanding of power transmission systems (shafts, bearings, motors, gearboxes, drives).
Familiarity with structural analysis, stress calculations, or design of welded/bolted assemblies.
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work in a project-based, cross-functional environment.
Preferred Experience
Exposure to material handling systems, conveyors, or rotating equipment.
Experience supporting field installations, site measurements, or commissioning activities.
Background in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or infrastructure-related industries.
