Overview
Kemper, a publicly traded, multi-billion dollar insurance and financial services company, seeks a talented and motivated Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team at our headquarters in downtown Chicago. This role provides exposure to ledgers, consolidation, and financial reporting within a multi-faceted insurance company that covers SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper has a track record of developing its people for higher roles within the department and across its operating entities. The Senior Accountant will support Corporate, P&C, and Life investment accounting for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review monthly journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
Prepare and review various reporting schedules for statutory and GAAP reporting
Consolidate information for internal and external financial reporting
Collaborate with internal and external auditors and provide necessary support
Prepare analytical schedules, analyze variances, and provide support for internal requests
Actively identify and complete process improvement projects
Review work of Staff Accountants and provide meaningful feedback
Create and perform ad hoc queries and analyses as needed
Minimum qualifications
3+ years of experience in corporate accounting
Insurance / financial services experience is a plus; investment accounting experience is a plus
CPA or CPA candidate preferred
Experience with both US GAAP and statutory accounting principles
Experience in financial reporting, reconciliations and journal entries
Experience navigating a large ERP environment
Proficiency in MS Office products with intermediate to advanced MS Excel
Experience in Workday and Blackline is a strong plus

Excellent communication skills to interact with varying levels of management and staff
