Responsibilities
Manage CPS Investigations/Family Assessments or CPS In-Home/Prevention with a combined caseload of ongoing child protective services and foster care prevention cases; make referrals and coordinate services with community partners.
Conduct face-to-face interviews to assess progress in services; perform announced and unannounced home visits; conduct CPS family assessments of child abuse and neglect complaints; interview children and adults; assess safety and implement safety plans.
Investigate child abuse and neglect, assess client needs, provide counseling and assistance, determine available programs and services, and prepare and maintain files and records; prepare reports.
Apply thorough knowledge of social, economic and health problems; knowledge of social institutions and helping processes; knowledge of child abuse policies and procedures; knowledge of intervention and treatment techniques; understand individual and group behavior; identify social problems and client needs to utilize services in problem-solving.
Plan and organize work; interpret laws, policies and regulations; communicate and establish effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, other professionals, social agencies and the public; prepare reports and maintain records.
Provide rotating coverage for child welfare on-call after hours by phone or in person as needed according to state law and local policy and procedures.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, human services, or related field and considerable local social services agency experience.
Possession of all requirements for the position as specified by the Virginia Department of Social Services.
Willingness to work outside of normal business hours to accommodate client needs.
