Reporting to the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Discrimination and Resolutions, the Resolution Specialist assists the DTIXCDR with needed non-punitive educational conversations, the resolution and adjudications of cases that are currently in the Office of Equal Rights & Title IX and to help enforce the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy and Nondiscrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy.

Responsibilities

Conduct and facilitate educational conversations and case resolutions with students, delegated to the Resolution Specialist at the request of the DTIXCDR.

Be comfortable having difficult and awkward conversations regarding sex and sexual misconduct.

Be knowledgeable of Virginia and federal laws related to anti-harassment and nondiscrimination for all protected classes, and regulatory trends in higher education.

Know the Sexual Misconduct Policy and the Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy. Have regular and consistent meetings with the TIXC, TIXCIS, and TIXCDR, as well as the Intake Specialist Team regarding ongoing cases.

Assess campus safety concerns and refer such concerns to the appropriate persons or offices, including ensuring compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act, Title IX, and Liberty University policies/procedures related to Review Committee/Threat Assessment Team (TAT) reviews, issuing timely warning notices, and emergency restrictions.

Work with the DTIXCDR and Case Manager to coordinate informal resolutions, appeal processes and adjudications.

Assist the DTIXCDR by helping, facilitating, and confirming all training needs are met by LU faculty/staff serving in those roles and processes.

Effectively communicate the mission of the Office of Equal Rights and Title IX (OEC) and information regarding the OEC’s complaint resolution processes, including formal and informal resolution options.

Demonstrate professionalism and a Christlike approach to each matter and person.

Attend departmental and other official Liberty University meetings as required.

Act as liaison to faculty, staff, and administration regarding concerns related to OEC policies, procedures, and supportive measures.

Maintain detailed, objective, and appropriate documentation using the case management software, Maxient.

Remain knowledgeable of Virginia and federal laws related to anti-harassment and nondiscrimination for all protected classes, and regulatory trends in higher education.

Recommend updates, revisions, and changes to policies and procedures, internal office forms, office publications (manuals, website information, brochures, etc.), and other related materials to direct supervisor.

Provide reports, statistics, and trends on request to the direct supervisor.

Maintain qualifications through ongoing training and professional development.

Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering the University’s mission.

Facilitate office projects at the direction of TIXC, DTIXCDR, DTIXCIS, and DTIXCI for the successful resolution of departmental cases.

All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by TIXC, DTIXCDR, DTIXCIS, DTIXCI.

Qualifications And Credentials

Education and Experience

Required

In-depth understanding of Title IX processes such as: educational conversations, informal resolutions, and adjudications.

A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in higher education, business administration, student development, counseling, pastoral studies, human resources, or communications is required.

Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.

This position is a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and a Responsible Employee for Title IX. Those designations require, at a minimum, annual training. The candidate is required to complete successfully all required trainings.

1-2 years of experience in a similar position/field.

Preferred Qualification

Ability to clearly and respectfully communicate in a Christlike way with Liberty University students, and as needed, staff, and faculty.

Communication and Comprehension

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.

Proficiency in English for clear written and oral communication.

Public communication skills for professional representation of Liberty University.

Discretion and ability to maintain confidential information.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Demonstrated leadership and ability to train and coach others.

Ability to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems.

Critical thinking and analytical skills.

Physical and Sensory Abilities

Occasionally travel to local and campus locations; sit for extended periods; hear and speak effectively; occasional standing and walking; handle materials; lift up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

The position is in a climate-controlled office setting with moderate noise. Some travel is required using personal or university vehicles; a valid Virginia driver’s license and insurance are required.
