About the Role

Our client, a well-established utility organization in the Pacific Northwest, is seeking a

Gas & Regulatory Accounting Manager

to join their finance leadership team. This role is instrumental in ensuring the accuracy of regulatory accounting processes while supporting operations across gas, renewables, and environmental reporting.

As a manager within the regulatory accounting function, you will lead a talented team responsible for monthly close activities, internal controls, quarterly reporting, and ad hoc projects. The position reports directly to the Director of Accounting and involves close collaboration with cross-functional partners, business stakeholders, and senior leadership. The role is structured with a

hybrid work schedule , available to residents of Oregon and Washington.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee regulatory accounting related to gas operations, including cost of gas, storage, reserves, environmental liabilities, credits, and unbilled revenue.

Manage reporting requirements to state and federal regulatory agencies.

Contribute to the preparation of filings with public utility commissions.

Research and analyze complex regulatory accounting issues; provide recommendations to management.

Support management with financial analysis, forecasting, and special projects.

Act as a subject matter resource for regulatory accounting issues, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.

Partner with internal and external auditors during audits.

Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and maintain robust internal controls.

Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.

Lead, coach, and develop team members while modeling strong leadership and decision-making.

Stay current with technical accounting standards and industry practices.

Participate in company-wide initiatives and projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and active

CPA

required.

8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Public accounting background (minimum 2 years) strongly preferred.

Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP; SEC reporting experience is a plus.

Experience in the utility, energy, or other regulated industries highly valued.

Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred; Allegro a plus).

Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop accounting professionals.

Strong communication skills, with experience in reporting and presentations.

Skilled in analysis, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Ability to balance detail orientation with strategic thinking.
