The City of Falls Church is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Real Estate Assessor to lead its Real Estate Assessment Office. This role oversees the assessment of residential and commercial properties in accordance with the Code of Virginia, City ordinances, and generally accepted appraisal practices. The City uses Vision Government Solutions’ Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) software to support its mass appraisal operations. Responsibilities
Leading and managing the City’s real estate assessment program, including planning, supervision, and directing an effective and comprehensive assessment program. Collecting and analyzing data for residential and commercial property appraisals. Developing and refining economic models for mass appraisal. Supervising, training, and evaluating assessment office staff. Reviewing property appeals and making valuation adjustments as needed. Communicating assessment procedures and outcomes to City officials, Board of Equalization, property owners and the public. Exercising initiative and independent judgement in ensuring an efficient and effective assessment program. Exercising professionalism in all interactions with stakeholders. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in real estate, business administration, or a related field. Valid Driver's License in the state of residence. Minimum of ten years of experience in real estate assessment, including three years in a supervisory role. Extensive knowledge of mass appraisal techniques, USPAP standards, and IAAO assessment practices. Completion of at least five IAAO courses from the following list: IAAO Course 101: Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal IAAO Course 102: Income Approach to Valuation IAAO Course 112: Income Approach to Valuation II IAAO Course 201: Appraisal of Land IAAO Course 300: Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal IAAO Course 311: Real Property Modeling Concepts IAAO Course 400: Assessment Administration Preferred Qualifications
Experience in commercial property appraisals and processing supplementary assessment experience. Virginia Certified General Appraisal License. Proficiency with Vision 8 CAMA or similar systems. Hours

The annual salary range is $130,000 - $160,000 and depends upon qualifications.
