Overview
The Assistant Controller will be primarily responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting functions for the Firm's business development companies (BDCs). The Firm is a dynamic high growth organization which currently includes 20+ close private investment funds across multiple domiciles and BDCs. We are seeking a candidate to join our growing team with a proven ability to work collaboratively with groups across an organization and with outside service providers to direct appropriate information flow and effectively manage reporting deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the coordination, preparation, and review of SEC reporting that would include the following:
Quarterly 10-Q and annual 10-K
Frequent 8-Ks and associated reporting for debt facilities, share issuances, tender offerings, dividend announcements
Proxy Process
Additional ad-hoc SEC reporting
Oversee the preparation of accounting support packages and coordination with the 3rd party fund administrator, including operating expenses and account reconciliations
Perform manager level review and sign off on the monthly/quarterly trial balances prepared by 3rd party fund administrator and identify and resolve issues
Perform manager level review over disclosure support schedules prepared by the 3rd party fund administrator
Support the BDC performance forecasting process and other various presentations to the Portfolio Managers, Leadership, and Board of Directors
Support the Investor Relations team with investor reporting and coordination and execution of operational needs with our transfer agent
Coordinate with the operations and investment accounting team to ensure accuracy of Wall Street Office system data utilized in accounting support packages
Annual audit coordination and assistance in the preparation and review of audit financial statements
Oversee the preparation of support schedules for tax reporting and compliance
Develop talent and continue to drive efficiencies through process improvements
Assist with training and management of fund accounting team
Support Ad-hoc internal and external reporting
Requirements
Minimum 6 years of relevant experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance, CPA is a plus
Ideal candidate background would include:
Experience in public accounting (audit)
Progressive experience with a company
SEC reporting exposure with public investment vehicles
Experience with private and retail funds
Experience with fixed income products
Experience working with Workiva or similar financial reporting/filing tool
Strong ability / knowledge of Microsoft Excel Functions
Previous exposure to Wall Street Office bank loan system is a plus
A detail-oriented self-starter who enjoys a dynamic fast-pace work environment at a growing company
Physical Requirements
Sitting: Frequently (approximately 70–80% of the workday) Required for computer work, phone communication, and administrative tasks.
Standing and Walking: Occasionally (approximately 20-30% of the workday)
May be required for filing, retrieving documents, or walking between departments or meeting rooms.
May be required to walk between Monroe offices located on different floors in the building
May be required to use a step-stool to access supplies
Lifting/Carrying: Occasionally Must be able to lift and carry items such as office supplies, boxes of paper, or small equipment (typically up to 20 pounds).
Reaching/Bending: Occasionally Required when organizing supplies, accessing low or high shelves, or setting up meeting rooms.
Typing/Keyboard Use: Frequently Daily use of computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment is required.
Vision and Hearing: Frequently Adequate vision for reading reports, emails, and spreadsheets. Adequate hearing for phone conversations and verbal communication in meetings.
Speaking: Frequently Must be able to communicate clearly with staff, vendors, and external partners.
Compensation It is expected that the base salary range for this position will be $150,000-$170,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications for the role. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial and / or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits such as vacation, sick time and parental leave) dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an ‘at-will position’ and the Firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time including for reasons related to individual performance, Firm or individual department / team performance and market factors.
