Job Summary The Director, Fleet Operations will oversee the strategic direction, nationwide operations, and long-term optimization of SimonMed’s commercial medical unit fleet, focusing on our Mobile Mammography program. This includes responsibility for fleet safety, regulatory compliance, budgetary oversight, and staff development to ensure seamless delivery of mobile healthcare services.

Job Duties

Develop and execute long-term fleet operations strategy, aligning with SimonMed’s organizational mission and growth objectives.

Oversee modernization initiatives, including upgrades, technology integrations, and sustainability-focused practices.

Establish performance metrics and reporting systems to track fleet efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness nationwide.

Direct all aspects of commercial medical unit fleet operations, including preventative maintenance, upgrades, modifications, and safety programs. Develop and manage a preventative maintenance program to ensure timely inspections, reduce downtime, and extend fleet lifecycle.

Ensure nationwide DOT compliance and maintain rigorous regulatory standards across multiple states.

Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiations, and partnerships to optimize fleet performance and minimize downtime.

Develop, monitor, and manage operational budgets, ensuring fiscal accountability and cost control.

Ensure adherence to HIPAA, OSHA, and state/federal fleet regulations.

Lead risk management programs, mitigating operational disruptions and ensuring compliance with transportation and healthcare safety standards.

Collaborate with internal teams (drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, HR, and Safety) to solve challenges, ensure compliance, and identify opportunities for improvement.

Foster a collaborative, patient-first workplace culture.

Partner with clinical leaders, HR, IT, Safety, and Operations to ensure fleet support aligns with clinical care delivery and business growth.

Serve as the primary liaison for executive leadership on fleet performance, risks, and strategic initiatives.

Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

10+ years of progressive experience in fleet management, logistics, or transportation operations, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

Proven expertise in managing multi-state or national commercial fleets with compliance-heavy operations.

Experience managing budgets and vendor contracts.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of HIPAA and medical operations, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and company policies.

Knowledge of fleet maintenance best practices, preventative maintenance programs, and repair processes.

Expertise with DOT, OSHA, and federal/state regulations for commercial fleet operations and safety procedures and risk management in transportation operations.

Strategic and financial acumen, with ability to balance operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with proven ability to inspire, coach, and hold teams accountable.

Strong communication and negotiation skills for working with leaders, vendors, and cross-functional teams.

Ability to thrive in a high-growth, fast-paced environment with extensive multi-state travel.

Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.

Ability to travel extensively throughout the U.S. to oversee fleet and staff.

Must be able to manage multiple priorities with strong organizational and time-management skills.

Maintain a customer-focused mindset while ensuring operational efficiency.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing in and out of commercial vehicles.

Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate vehicles and equipment safely.
