Job Duties
Provide operational support at the latent fingerprint processing lab: establish service requests, manage intake/return of evidence, coordinate deliveries with law enforcement partners, and escort individuals to restricted areas as required.
Receive and process non-public disclosure requests submitted by email or subpoena in compliance with state and federal laws and court decisions.
Establish, maintain, assign and track latent fingerprint cases; retrieve and enter information from various databases; manage evidence with chain-of-custody; review results to prepare final reports.
Maintain case records for physical/electronic storage in accordance with retention schedules; manage files through creation to disposal in compliance and efficiency.
Maintain records storage, archiving, and destruction per regulations and policies.
Research and investigate multiple databases to fulfill service requests from law enforcement, state/federal agencies and attorneys.
Develop working relationships with requestors; determine request type and ensure timely responses in compliance with disclosure rules.
Propose amendments to SOPs when necessary to ensure consistency, efficiency, safety and compliance.
May testify in court with sworn testimony or formal statements under oath.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Minimum two (2) years of experience performing administrative duties.
Analytical and problem-solving skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience in data entry, database queries, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) applications.
Ability to research, process, maintain, and distribute records using multiple databases and physical files.
Comfort with law enforcement culture, attorneys, and court systems.
Ability to work in environments with chemical/biological odors, weapons, blood or illegal drugs present.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information; avoid unlawful disclosure.
Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to convey rules, regulations, and policies both verbally and in writing.
Ability to interpret and apply documented policies, procedures, rules, and instructions.
Experience working both independently and in teams; cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with distractions and to organize/prioritize to meet deadlines.
Experience gathering, manipulating, and using data; understanding retention schedules and records management.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of records management practices and retention techniques.
Experience handling confidential or highly sensitive information and/or offensive documents/case files.
Experience managing both physical and electronic records lifecycle; proper classification, secure storage and timely disposition.
Three+ years of administrative support and customer service experience.
Forensic, law enforcement, court, or legal experience.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule : 40 hours/week; overtime eligible with supervisor approval. Shifts may vary; evenings and weekends may be required.
Special Requirements
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs; may involve exposure to hazardous materials or noxious odors; and exposure to crime scene photographs.
Background investigation, including polygraph, if selected.
Must obtain/maintain WSP ACCESS Level 1 Certification.
A valid Washington State driver's license and good driving record.
