SUMMARY: Reports to the Manager, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations, Rhode Island Hospital (RIH). Responsible for coordinating and supervising day-to-day medication preparation and distribution services, and workflow processes at RIH. Develops and maintains an effective work group consisting of direct report professional and supportive personnel to ensure that the Pharmacy’s medication preparation and dispensing operations are provided in accordance with RI Department of Health (DoH) Board of Pharmacy and federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) rules and regulations and comply with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, National Patient Safety Goals and established internal policies and procedures. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities to ensure that the customers\' expectations are met or exceeded. Participates in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and budgets for Pharmacy Services. RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates and supervises day-to-day medication preparation and distribution services and workflow processes for inpatient pharmacy services.

Implements, interprets, and provides consultation for inpatient pharmacy policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

Provides oversight to the preparation and repackaging of non-sterile pharmaceutical products according to computer-generated and/or pharmacist approved formulation records, including proper technique, labeling, and expiration dating. Works in accordance with USP 795 procedures.

Reviews and analyzes day-to-day medication preparation and distribution services and workflow processes. Recommends and implements operational changes and new technologies to increase efficiency. Reallocates resources to increase level of pharmacy services provided to inpatients.

Interviews applicants, makes recommendations for hiring, evaluates personnel, and is responsible for retention, performance enhancement, and competency assessment of direct and indirect reports in collaboration with the Inpatient Pharmacy Manager and other Supervisors.

Provides actionable feedback to employees to promote effective teamwork and satisfaction in the workplace in consultation with Pharmacy Manager and other Supervisors. Ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and relevant labor contracts.

Participates in determining the qualifications and competence of department personnel and in the development of tools and standards to establish and improve medication preparation and distribution services competency levels, including orientation of new employees and in-service training.

Performs duties of a clinical pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication, providing drug information, and other duties as required. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to care for neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with consideration of aging processes and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Participates in the implementation of patient-focused pharmaceutical care services for inpatients and contributes to development of short- and long-term goals for medication preparation and distribution services in alignment with Brown University Health’s mission and objectives.

Provides input into the development of capital and operating budgets for the inpatient Pharmacy. Develops and administers staffing schedules for inpatient pharmacy services and coordinates with other areas as needed.

Ensures day-to-day staffing is appropriate for services provided and patient populations served. Maintains computerized systems, software programs, and specialized dispensing equipment and technologies (e.g., Omnicell) in collaboration with the Inpatient Pharmacy Manager, other supervisors, and Information Services.

Serves as the gatekeeper for vaccine inventory and distribution. Coordinates adherence to pharmacoeconomic and therapeutic monitoring programs and other safe medication use practices.

Communicates effectively with staff, management, and customers to facilitate day-to-day workflow. Provides timely and accurate communication regarding operational changes and quality improvement activities.

Participates in the education and training of pharmacy students during IPPE and APPE rotations, completes applicable competency and evaluation documentation, and participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives and committees as assigned.

Maintains knowledge of leading-edge developments in pharmacy, therapeutics, inpatient services, programs, and technology through ongoing study and professional activities.

Performs the duties of Pharmacy Administrator-On-Call on an assigned basis and performs other administrative duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy. Advanced study in pharmacy or health-care related field (e.g., MBA, MHA, MPH, MS, or completion of ASHP-accredited PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership residency) preferred. Extensive clinical experience may be considered in lieu of formal training. Prior to start date, possesses current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist or as a licensed 90-day temporary pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island. Obtain full licensure prior to expiration of the 90-day license and maintain current unrestricted licensure as a pharmacist in Rhode Island.

QUALIFICATIONS-EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years progressively more responsible related experience, preferably in a similarly diverse and operationally complex health care environment. Pharmacy leadership and supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of technology including electronic health records, pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, software, equipment, and automation. Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, FileMaker Pro, and web browsers. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills. Supervisory responsibility for up to 35 FTEs.

Pay Range: $119,198.35 - $196,679.39
