Overview

The Maryland Port Administration (MPA) is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Skilled Trade Specialist with experience in underground utility systems to join the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary responsibility is preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance on underground utility systems, as well as systems and infrastructure specific to marine terminal operations, to minimize impact on cargo movement while adhering to applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines. Open to All Qualified Candidates The MPA is a 205-employee transportation unit within the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). MPA helps increase waterborne commerce through Maryland ports. Responsibilities

Inspection, maintenance, and repair of the potable water distribution system. Inspection, maintenance, and repair of the sanitary wastewater distribution system. Inspection, maintenance, and repair of the storm water drainage system. Inspection, maintenance, and repair of the potable water distribution system used to supply potable water to ships. Inspection, maintenance, and repair of the pier/berth fendering and safety systems. Inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire hydrants throughout the marine terminals. The current vacancy exists at the Dundalk Marine Terminal. This position reports directly to a Skilled Trade Supervisor in the Facility Maintenance Division. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Education:

Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience:

Three (3) years of experience performing skilled trade work in the area of underground utilities. Additional Notes: Your placement on an eligible list may be based solely on the contents of your application. Please include all relevant experience (full/part time, volunteer, military, acting, etc.). If you have held more than one position at the same employer, list each position and length of time. Additional work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. A vocational certificate may substitute for one year of general experience. U.S. Armed Forces service as utility repair or related skilled trades experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis. Licenses & Certifications

Candidates must have a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland; list license number and expiration date on the application. During the probationary period, may be required to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in Maryland depending on equipment. The employing administration may require required training and certification for permanent status. During the probationary period, must obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) for unescorted access to MDOT/MPA facilities. Additional Information

Employees must be available for duty to maintain continuous operations and may be required to respond to call-ins. Maintain reliable communication for emergency callbacks. Hazardous materials exposure may require medical testing and training; respirator use may be required. Ability to perform maintenance on high structures and in cramped quarters may be needed. Essential Employee status; must comply with related policies. Pre-employment drug testing and substance abuse testing may apply. Incumbents may join a collective bargaining unit. Application Process
