Overview

Director of Business Operations at Inversion. Turning Space into a Transportation Layer for Earth. We are building highly maneuverable re-entry vehicles that can loiter in orbit before precision landing back on Earth. This role partners with the executive team to scale a lean organization, shaping and executing Operatons strategy aligned with the company’s growth and culture. Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and continuously improve company-wide operational systems, policies, and processes that support rapid headcount and revenue growth. Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team on company-wide planning, budgeting, and decision-making. Drive strategic scaling and operational infrastructure to enable rapid growth while preserving speed, agility, and culture. Own procurement, vendor management, and contract strategies to support short-term project needs and long-term scalability. Develop and oversee regulatory, compliance, and risk management programs (ITAR/EAR, licenses, and defense-related certifications). Oversee facilities and general administration across multiple sites, including lease negotiations and workplace optimization. Own operational dashboards and reporting to provide real-time insight into KPIs and resource allocation. Required Qualifications

Typically 10–12+ years of experience in business operations, strategy, or consulting; ideally with aerospace, defense, or deep tech startups. Strong track record leading cross-functional projects across engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams. Familiarity with government contracts (e.g., DoD, NASA, SBIR/STTR) and experience supporting compliance and reporting. Ability to build scalable systems, workflows, and internal processes to support growth and operational rigor. Experience owning company-wide planning cycles, OKRs, and business performance tracking. Skilled in using data to drive decisions, with ability to build dashboards and monitor KPIs for resource planning. Experience supporting proposal development, milestone tracking, and internal coordination for government programs. Strong communication skills to align technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives and external partners. Comfortable operating in ambiguity, proactive, hands-on, and capable of scaling structure ahead of growth. Passion for aerospace and motivation to work in regulated, mission-driven environments. Preferred Qualifications

MBA or equivalent advanced degree in business, operations, or related field. The California annual base salary for this role is currently $150,000-180,000. Pay grades determined by role, level, location, and market data. Individual pay determined case-by-case based on skills, experience, and internal equity. ITAR Compliance
