You will be responsible for supporting a collaborative engineering lab environment where local software engineers, program business partners, and customer partners work together to develop, integrate, and deliver embedded systems solutions for the United States Special Operations Command. The team will identify technologies and mature them into a government-owned software ecosystem that directly supports the warfighter. Responsibilities
Oversee local software engineers, program business partners, and customer partners in a collaborative engineering lab Lead and mentor the local development team onsite, fostering technical growth and collaboration Collaborate with the senior program lead and program manager to align technical progress with business objectives Demonstrate expertise with small embedded systems such as NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm SoC, and other SBCs Ensure robust embedded Linux development, networking configuration, and integration of hardware/software components Promote lab best practices, network topologies, and integration standards in compliance with DoD guidelines Design, develop, document, test, and debug new and existing software systems and/or applications Constructively participate in code reviews Continuously learn, grow, and improve Proactively advocate for improvement on behalf of the team and yourself Analyze user needs to determine technical requirements Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements Analyze code to find causes of errors/inefficiency and revise programs as needed Requirements
Location:
This position is fully onsite at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Remote work is not available. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field Minimum 6-12 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer Active U.S. Government Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI) and U.S. Citizenship required Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams of 5-10 members Hands-on experience with SBCs such as NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm Snapdragon/QRB, NXP i.MX, Raspberry Pi Proficiency in at least one of: C/C++, Java, Python, or Rust Ability to decompose complex technical challenges and communicate decisions clearly to engineering teams Lead the local development team in adherence to SAFe Agile principles and ceremonies Experience facilitating PI Planning, Sprint Planning, and Inspect & Adapt events for program alignment Coordinate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Release Train Engineers to maintain delivery cadence Ensure program backlog refinement and alignment with business and technical objectives Beneficial Skills and Experience
Experience with Yocto or other BSP/build tools Board bring-up, device-tree configuration, and hardware debugging Strong understanding of Layer 2/3 networking and embedded network integration Experience in DoD programs and drone (UAS) development Familiarity with ROS 2, PX4/ArduPilot, and autonomy stack integration Knowledge of MIL-STD-810/461/882E, STANAG 4586, DO-178C, and DO-254 guidelines Strong stakeholder communication and program/business alignment experience Salary
Salary range: $185,000 - $200,000 USD Benefits
