About the Role
We currently have an opportunity for a Director, Transmission Regulatory, to join our team in Austin, TX. In this highly visible role, you will serve as the face of the company with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) Commissioners and staff, ERCOT leadership and staff, legislators, municipalities, electric cooperatives, consumers advocates, and other key stakeholders. You’ll represent in regulatory, policy, and stakeholder forums while ensuring our leadership team is informed of issues that could significantly impact the business. Beyond regulatory engagement, you’ll also play an active role in shaping company strategy, supporting transmission planning activities, promoting new business opportunities, and strengthening our position in the Texas energy market. This role is ideal for a strategic leader who thrives at the intersection of policy, regulation, and business development, and who is eager to build lasting relationships that drive results for the company.
Responsibilities
What you will do
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with PUCT Commissioners and staff, ERCOT leadership and staff, industry colleagues, and other stakeholders.
Engage in PUCT regulatory proceedings, including contested cases, rulemakings, workshops, and other industry forums.
Actively participate in ERCOT stakeholder processes, committees, and working groups.
Serve as a key point of contact with regulatory agencies, state officials, and industry organizations, and stakeholders.
Strategic Analysis & Policy Development
Evaluate proposed regulatory changes and assess potential business impacts.
Develop and articulate regulatory strategies and policy positions that align company objectives with state energy policy goals.
Track industry trends and emerging best practices to inform decision-making.
Regulatory Compliance & Oversight
Monitor and interpret new regulatory requirements and determine operational impacts.
Oversee regulatory reporting obligations and respond to inquiries from agencies.
Lead the preparation and submission of transmission-related filings.
Ensure compliance with FERC, PUCT, and ERCOT requirements.
Provide testimony, draft comments, and represent the company in PUCT and ERCOT forums.
Monitor and analyze legislation affecting the electric utility industry.
Partner with external lobbyists and contribute to legislative advocacy when needed.
Transmission Planning & Projects
Support transmission planning initiatives and ERCOT Regional Planning Group submissions.
Ensure transmission projects align with regulatory requirements and approval processes.
Collaborate with stakeholders on integrated transmission system planning.
Leadership & Public Presence
Serve as a trusted representative of the company in public proceedings, legislative hearings, and media interactions when required.
Provide thought leadership on emerging transmission and market design issues.
Qualifications
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, Law/Legal Studies, Public Policy, or a related field.
Bring 10+ years of experience in utility regulation, public policy, or a related area.
Direct experience engaging in PUCT contested proceedings and ERCOT stakeholder processes strongly preferred.
Possess deep knowledge of FERC, PUCT, and ERCOT regulations and processes.
Have experience with transmission planning, rate-making, or regulatory proceedings.
Demonstrate exceptional analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues in briefs and other documents.
Excel at building cross-functional relationships and engaging effectively with external stakeholders.
Are a self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision and can drive initiatives forward independently.
