Supplier Development Quality Engineer at HUBER+SUHNER. Responsibilities
Supplier Assessment & Qualification:
Conduct potential analysis and/or process audits, including verification of audit results. Plan and conduct supplier audits, including re-audits and verification of results. Support the development of the supplier’s quality management system. Quality Planning & Product Development:
Improve product conformity and drive design-for-quality/design-to-cost by clarifying application and specifications, reviewing supplier feasibility studies, process controls, inspection and test equipment plans, and optimizing measurement instructions. Plan and drive first sample inspections or part approvals (PPAP), and coordinate corrective actions where required. Process Stabilization & Improvement:
Support suppliers in stabilizing and improving production processes, including preventive maintenance for production equipment. Conduct on-site supplier quality visits focused on defect prevention, improving process controls, and reducing variation and waste in the supply chain. Training & Capability Building:
Train suppliers to improve process controls using quality tools such as APQP, FMEA, and error-proofing (e.g., poka-yoke). Encourage and train suppliers to use structured complaint handling methods (e.g., 8-D methodology). Performance Monitoring & Issue Resolution:
Conduct regular supplier quality performance monitoring and request improvement actions. Support the supplier rating process and contribute to supplier improvement action plans. Process supplier complaints using 8-D methodology and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions. Evaluate supplier complaints, identify recurring problems, and collaborate on improvement measures. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with other H+S locations on supplier quality issues and build a network focused on supplier quality. Talent Profile
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering or technical discipline is required. Preferred fields: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quality Engineering, or Materials Science. Experience:
Has worked preferably in the connectivity industry with experience in the A&D market. 10+ years of experience in quality management. 10+ years experience in conducting supplier audits as lead auditor. Skills/Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of quality tools such as APQP, FMEA, SPC. Very good understanding of supplier manufacturing technologies turning and milling as well as special processes such as heat treatment, plating, coating, soldering, sealing and welding. Very good knowledge of quality standards such as ISO 9001, EN9001 and Nadcap AC7004. Strong communication skills to build up positive relationships with suppliers and to collaborate in cross-functional teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong project management skills. Structured working style with clear targets. High initiative and proactive mindset. Flexible travelling (up to 50%). Fluent in English; Spanish preferred. Proficient in MS-Office. Experience in CAQ tools (i.e. Babtec) preferred. Personal Qualifications:
Ability to handle change effectively; customer focus; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse backgrounds; leadership aligned with H+S leadership principles and Code of Responsible Business Conduct. Pay range: in New Jersey is $102,099 - $127,623 per year. Final offer may vary based on experience and location.
