The Opportunity We are seeking a Business Development & Marketing Specialist to join our Firm. This position will be based in our Chicago office (hybrid). The specialist supports the business development and marketing efforts across the Midwest, including client-facing events and webinars, award and directory submissions, internal communications, new business pitches, CRM database management and various thought leadership activities to promote Firm services to existing and potential clients. The role reports to the Associate Director (Chicago) and provides support for various functions to the U.S. and global Business Development & Marketing Department. Responsibilities Facilitates the production of client-facing educational and social events (webinars, seminars, conferences, receptions, dinners, etc.); plans, executes and monitors event logistics (venue, services, invitations, vendor coordination, printed materials); serves as on-site point of contact. Leads the webinar production pipeline, interfaces with webinar vendor and panelists, and handles post-event matters including follow-up and CLE issuance. Works with Accounting to monitor departmental budgets and process vendor payments. Assists with internal office events as required. Drafts award and directory submissions for regional and national publications; manages submission timelines. Maintains records and tracking documents for Chicago marketing efforts and provides semi-annual reporting to the global team. Supports BDMMs with new business pitches, proposals and responses to RFPs using InDesign and PowerPoint; ensures materials reflect correct messages and Firm capabilities. Drafts, edits and updates a broad range of written deliverables including practice area descriptions, attorney biographies, internal newsletters, and other marketing materials. Maintains mailing lists and client data in the CRM system; coordinates cleanup of regional contact lists and tracks practice and partner activities. Prepares for partner/counsel marketing and business development meetings; coordinates with office colleagues to share regional information. Conducts client research to promote Firm services to existing and potential clients. Upholds confidentiality and Firm standards; demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication; manages firm resources responsibly; maintains regular presence as part of a team; complies with Firm policies; performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Broad and thorough knowledge of marketing in a large law firm environment. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills. Understanding of Firm operations and policies. Ability to synthesize data and present it clearly; strong research skills. Strong listening and consultative skills; proficiency with Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM and database management; ability to learn new software. Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities; handle sensitive information with discretion; work independently and in a team; exercise judgment. Flexible hours and willingness to travel; capable of working in a fast-paced environment. Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum of 4 years in marketing and/or business development in the professional services arena, with a preference for law experience.
