The Attorney General regulates and oversees charitable entities, trusts, their fiduciaries, and their fundraisers. Attorneys in the Charitable Activities Section protect the public’s interest in charitable organizations and their assets, including by leading investigations, identifying legal violations, negotiating voluntary resolutions, and litigating cases. Areas of focus include fraudulent charitable solicitations, nonprofit governance failures, fiduciaries’ diversion or mismanagement of charitable assets, and enforcement of financial reporting and regulatory requirements. Section attorneys also educate the charitable sector about legal obligations. The ideal candidate will have experience understanding financial documents and analysis, working with investigators to develop facts, and building case strategy. The role requires self-direction, collaboration, creative and strategic thinking, and the ability to resolve cases to advance the public interest. Responsibilities

Collaborate with attorneys, investigators, and support staff within DOJ and with other state/federal enforcement partners; Work with charities and fiduciaries to bring organizations into voluntary compliance with legal obligations; Initiate and resolve administrative proceedings to address regulatory violations; Investigate potential violations of charitable laws; Issue civil investigative demands, review document productions, and interview witnesses; Evaluate cases and make recommendations to decisionmakers; Draft and file court complaints against charities, fiduciaries, or fundraisers for fraudulent or deceptive solicitations or misuse of assets; Prepare and argue motions; manage discovery and trial preparation; Negotiate settlements; present educational information about nonprofit legal requirements. Qualifications

Active membership in good standing with the Oregon State Bar (or reciprocity in progress) at the time of application; At least five years of recent civil litigation experience; Ability to independently manage a caseload and move cases through all phases of litigation or resolution; Superior writing and oral advocacy skills, strong analytical abilities, and creative problem-solving; Experience taking or defending depositions in state or federal court actions; Strong work ethic and commitment to public service; Commitment to diversity, equity, and an inclusive work environment; Willingness and ability to travel (including overnight stays). Desired Qualifications

Experience handling state or federal public enforcement actions, fraud, deceptive trade practices, and/or administrative actions; Experience with financial records and analysis; Experience with complex litigation; Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and applicable legal requirements; Experience with collaborative resolutions and settlement negotiations.
