Overview
We are seeking a
Functional Consultant
to act as the bridge between business operations and governance initiatives. In this role, you’ll translate utility business processes into actionable governance requirements, ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and aligned with operational realities.
What You’ll Do
Analyze and document business processes in Customer Operations, Field Operations, Asset & Safety, and Capital Projects to identify governance opportunities.
Partner with stakeholders to capture business requirements for data quality, lineage, compliance, and stewardship.
Define critical data elements (CDEs) relevant to utility operations (e.g., customer accounts, service requests, meter data, work orders, asset registries).
Translate business needs into functional specifications for governance tools (Informatica, Unity Catalog, Erwin, Databricks).
Conduct workshops and interviews with SMEs, business leads, and IT custodians to validate requirements.
Support design of business glossaries, data dictionaries, and stewardship workflows.
Provide insights on regulatory drivers (PHMSA, NERC, SOX, GDPR/CCPA if applicable) and ensure governance frameworks address compliance.
Act as a business advisor during data maturity assessments (DAMA, CMMI) and use case prioritization.
Collaborate with the OCM Lead to develop training materials tailored for business SMEs.
8–10+ years of consulting or business analysis experience, with at least 5 years in utilities or regulated industries.
Strong knowledge of utility sector processes, including customer billing, service operations, asset management, and regulatory compliance.
Experience translating business processes into governance/data requirements.
Familiarity with governance frameworks (DAMA-DMBOK, CMMI).
Hands-on experience with data management platforms such as Informatica, Unity Catalog, Erwin, and Databricks.
Exceptional facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, comfortable working with both executives and operational SMEs.
Mandatory Databricks Certifications
Databricks Lakehouse Fundamentals
Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate (preferred for cross-functional understanding)
CBIP (Certified Business Intelligence Professional) or CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional)
Utility industry certifications (e.g., NARUC/EEI-related training)
DAMA CDMP (Data Management Professional)
