About the Role
We’re seeking a versatile full-stack developer who can own project-based builds in WordPress and Drupal—from design implementation to custom coding. You’ll translate briefs, wireframes, and brand guidelines into accessible, performant websites and microsites. The ideal candidate is equal parts builder and problem-solver, comfortable creating clean UI designs when provided direction, and turning them into robust, maintainable code.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Theming
Develop custom themes and child themes (WordPress) and custom themes with Twig (Drupal).
Create reusable components/blocks (Gutenberg), Drupal Layout Builder/Paragraphs, and templates.
Data & Tracking Integration
Connect social media ad campaigns and backend web development to Looker Studio dashboards, ensuring ad performance data is accurately tracked, visualized, and tied to web conversions.
Custom Development
Build custom plugins (WordPress) and modules (Drupal) as needed.
Integrate third-party APIs (REST/GraphQL), forms/CRM, and marketing tools.
Configure content models, taxonomies, menus, and user roles/permissions.
Quality, Accessibility & Performance
Ship sites that meet WCAG 2.2 AA/Section 508 requirements.
Optimize Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP), image pipelines, and caching/CDNs.
Workflow & Delivery
Use Git-based workflows, code reviews, and CI/CD where applicable.
Configure environments (e.g., Pantheon, Acquia, WP Engine, SiteGround) and manage deployments.
Write concise technical docs and handoff notes; estimate tasks and hit milestones.
Communicate proactively on scope, risks, and timelines.
Design Execution
Translate brand guides, mood boards, and wireframes into polished UI.
Produce page-level designs and component specs if not provided (Figma/Adobe XD).
Apply clear typographic hierarchy, spacing, and accessible color contrast.
Qualifications
3–5+ years of professional experience building WordPress and Drupal sites end-to-end.
Drupal: 9/10/11, Composer, Drush, Configuration Management, Views, Twig.
Familiarity with headless patterns and REST/GraphQL a plus.
Comfortable with Git, branch workflows, and code reviews.
Experience with Figma or Adobe XD; ability to create page comps/components from direction.
Working knowledge of SEO basics, schema, and analytics tagging (GA4, GTM).
Understanding of security hardening and updates for both CMS platforms.
Excellent communication, estimation, and documentation skills; able to work independently.
Nice to Have
Experience with public sector/public health sites and accessibility compliance.
Hosting on Pantheon/Acquia/WP Engine; Cloudflare and caching strategies.
Docker/local dev tools, linting, and testing frameworks.
Content migration (CSV/XML/JSON) and data normalization.
Contract type: Project-based with defined milestones and deliverables.
Availability: Part-time as needed; must be responsive during mountain time business hours. (Approx. 30 hours/month)
Compensation: Competitive hourly or fixed project rates commensurate with experience.
