Accounting - Senior Level up to Controller/Sr. Controller Level Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid) Phillip Capital Inc., located in Chicago, is dually registered with the SEC/FINRA as a self-clearing broker dealer and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as a registered Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) serving professional traders and institutions with customized clearing, custody and global market access solutions. Senior Accountant Level : 3-5 years of experience Manager Level : 5-8 years of experience Controller/Sr. Controller Level : 8-12 years of experience Responsibilities
Maintain the general ledger, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities. Assist in the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and broker-dealer accounting standards. Monitor and reconcile clearing firm activities, including trade settlements, fail-to-deliver/receive, and PAB (Proprietary Accounts of Broker-Dealers) accounts. Track and record daily cash activity across multiple accounts, including client, firm, and reserve accounts. Prepare and file required regulatory reports such as FOCUS Reports (Form X-17A-5), Net Capital computations, and customer reserve formula (Rule 15c3-3). Work closely with compliance and operations teams to ensure accurate financial representation of trading activity and firm positions. Support annual external audits and FINRA/SEC examinations by preparing schedules and documentation. Analyze variances and trends in P&L, capital requirements, and balance sheet items. Ensure adherence to internal controls and participate in process improvement initiatives. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Knowledge of SEC Rule 15c3-1 (Net Capital) and Rule 15c3-3 (Customer Protection) Proficient in Excel and general ledger/accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Oracle) Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP High level of integrity and professionalism Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Preferred Qualifications
Experience at a broker-dealer clearing firm CPA or progress toward CPA designation Familiarity with FOCUS filings and FINRA regulatory reporting systems Knowledge of DTCC, NSCC, and clearing operation How to apply
