Overview Otolaryngology - Pediatric Head and Neck Surgery
Position: Part Time; Job code: 86203BR
The Clinical Social Worker II or Clinical Social Worker III (LCSW) primary responsibilities include psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, brief therapeutic interventions, consultation, education, community linkages, supportive services, and facilitating the plan of care through the health care continuum for patients, families, and staff, with a focus on high-risk populations. The CSW II/III serves as a consultant to the clinical team, service lines, and other departments and participates in program development and quality improvement initiatives. This pediatric social worker will provide guidance, empowerment, and assistance for patients and families as they navigate their wellness paths at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital – San Francisco.
The CSW II/III coordinates resources and services in response to a patient’s psychosocial needs while collaborating with care team members to support timely and safe discharges and/or meet continuum of care needs within the fiscal realities of the case. The CSW II/III practices within UCSF’s mission of Caring, Healing, Teaching, Discovering and the Everyday PRIDE values: Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, and Excellence. The CSW II/III participates in department education and practice improvement activities. The CSW III has advanced clinical knowledge and is distinguished from the CSW II by leadership activities including participation in advanced program planning, provision of educational programs, clinical supervision, and consultation to the clinical team, other departments, and the community. The CSW II/III provides social work services to patients regardless of gender, sexual orientation, social, cultural, educational or religious background, language, age, ancestry, citizenship, color, national origin, race, disability, source of payment, medical condition, marital status, or veteran status. The ability to perform age-appropriate assessments, data interpretation, and interventions is required.
Responsibilities
Perform psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention for patients and families.
Provide counseling and brief therapeutic interventions; offer education and support services.
Coordinate resources and services; support timely and safe discharges and continuum of care needs.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams; participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives.
Contribute to department education and practice improvement activities; provide leadership as CSW III when applicable.
Qualifications
Master’s degree from a CSWE-accredited school of Social Work.
Current California State License of Clinical Social Work in good standing (CSW III).
Experience (internship/career) in healthcare, mental health, and/or child protection working with children and families.
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties.
Demonstrates resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, organizational and analytic skills.
Self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning and patient care management in a high-volume work environment.
Basic computer skills; proficient with text/pager, telephone, and internet usage.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Experience in crisis de-escalation and trauma-informed care.
Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with pediatric patients.
Experience working with patients living with chronic medical conditions.
Flexibility to work occasional weekends or evenings.
Second language, Spanish.
Three years experience in a hospital setting preferred.
License/Certification
Current California State License of Clinical Social Work in good standing (CSW III).
Salary and Benefits The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on work experience and internal equity. Placement within the range for positions represented by a labor union will follow the collective bargaining agreement. Salary range:
$41.79 - $72.17
per hour.

Specialty programs include Otology and Neurotology, Head and Neck Surgery, Rhinology and Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Endocrine (Thyroid and Parathyroid) Surgery, Skull Base Surgery, Facial Plastic Surgery, and Allergy.
