Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) is a human services agency helping families and individuals in all stages of homelessness and housing insecurity. Services include emergency shelter, housing search case management, daytime drop-in, street outreach, supportive housing, homeless/eviction prevention and connections to supplemental services. SHC also operates Project SOUP, which is a food service program that includes a pantry marketplace, community meals and delivery of groceries to the homebound. The agency environment is fast-paced with the provision of a variety of on-demand services, from crisis intervention to long-term stabilization support. Position Summary

The

Donor Engagement Officer

plays a key frontline role in sustaining and growing philanthropic support for the agency. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position is responsible for advancing the strategic direction of individual giving, managing a portfolio of donors and prospects, coordinating engagement and retention strategies, and providing team support to department-led fundraising events and initiatives. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Donor Engagement and Strategies Manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors with a focus on retention, growth, and movement along the giving pipeline. Develop and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies that are personalized, timely, and aligned with donor interests. Conduct regular outreach to donors, volunteer groups, and prospects through meetings, phone calls, events, and personalized communications. Ensure donors feel valued by providing impact updates, success stories, and recognition opportunities. Analyze donor response and giving trends to refine strategies and improve outcomes. Prospect and Lapsed Donor Development Identify, research, and qualify new prospects and re-engage lapsed supporters to expand SHC’s base of support. Create and execute engagement strategies to convert prospects into active donors. Lead the lapsed donor summer appeal to drive donor participation and revenue. Manage and enhance the donor retention and engagement strategy to sustain and grow recurring donations, ensuring long-term donor loyalty and reliable revenue. Partner with Executive Leadership and program staff to match donor interests with SHC’s funding needs. Collaboration and Support Partner with the Development team and internal stakeholders to align on engagement strategies and fundraising goals Support major events by engaging individual donors and prospects before, during, and after the event. Assist in planning and staffing donor cultivation events to deepen relationships and showcase impact Contribute ideas and insights to strengthen donor pipelines and enhance overall fundraising efforts. Administration & Data Maintain accurate donor records in the donor management system (Bloomerang). Generate donor activity reports, analyze giving trends, and make data-informed recommendations for engagement strategies. Draft and send timely, personalized acknowledgments that connect gifts directly to impact. Other Duties Assist with writing of grant applications/sponsorships Assist with receipt and distribution of in-kind donations, including food drives, holiday gift drives, etc. Perform other related duties as assigned Abide by handbook rules, policies and code of conduct Education, Abilities, Competencies and Experience Required

College degree or 4–6 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit development Proven ability to manage a donor portfolio and initiate and steward strong donor relationships Experience with donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Track record of meeting fundraising goals and supporting donor engagement efforts Confident, personable, and energized by building relationships Strong communicator with excellent writing and verbal skills Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities Ability to take initiative, work independently, and adapt to changing needs Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, Constant Contact; experience with Bloomerang preferred Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment

This job operates in an office and professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers. On occasion the job will require going out in events or organizations, based on the needs of the business. Physical Demands

This position is primarily sedentary, with most work performed in an office setting and occasional travel. It requires the ability to sit at a desk for extended periods, as well as frequent walking, bending, or standing as needed. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Designated days and schedule will be primarily Monday-Friday, though will also be based on the needs of the operation and business, will require some weekends, nights and early mornings. Travel
