Job Summary

The Director of Residential Services provides strategic and operational leadership across all residential services at The Centers’ H.O.P.E. Campus, including secure, non-secure (Open), and emergency bed programs (T-Suites). This position is responsible for the development, coordination, and performance management of six residential units, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, safety, structure, and supervision in alignment with trauma-informed practices and the H.O.P.E. Campus mission. The Director works in close partnership with the Clinical Director and other campus leaders to ensure youth experience consistent, integrated, and supportive services. The Director will also serve as a key leader in shaping the campus’s de-escalation and crisis intervention approach, advancing restraint reduction efforts, and cultivating a safe, structured, and therapeutic milieu across all residential programs. This position supervises all residential management staff and plays a critical role in driving a safe, structured, and healing-centered culture throughout the residential continuum. Responsibilities

Lead the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of residential programming across six units (Secure, Open, Emergency). Develop and refine unit-specific goals, schedules, and structures to support therapeutic engagement, safety, and accountability. Ensure programs operate in accordance with licensing requirements, Medicaid standards, and organizational policies. Monitor and address trends in safety, incidents, behavior management, and youth engagement across all units. Staff Supervision & Development

Guide recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of residential staff. Foster a team culture centered on consistency, structure, responsiveness, and trauma-informed practices. Monitor performance, provide coaching, and support retention efforts in collaboration with Human Resources. Cross-Functional Coordination

Collaborate with the Clinical Director, Nursing, Case Management, and Operations to ensure coordinated and integrated care. Ensure residential staff are equipped to support youth treatment plans and behavior intervention strategies designed by clinical leadership. Partner with Risk and Compliance and Quality Improvement to maintain readiness for audits, inspections, and licensing reviews. Program Operations & Performance

Oversee daily operations of residential units, including schedules, supervision ratios, safety protocols, and shift transitions. Track and analyze unit-level data (e.g., incident reports, staffing, youth movement, census) to support decision-making. Identify operational challenges and implement process improvements to enhance consistency, safety, and quality. Youth Experience & Programming

Ensure youth orientation, daily routines, enrichment activities, and community norms promote dignity, empowerment, and predictability. Partner with programming staff to deliver consistent engagement opportunities (e.g., recreation, life skills, cultural enrichment). Support the implementation of structured behavior support models and positive reinforcement systems. Fiscal & Resource Management

Collaborate with the Executive Director, Vice President of Programs, and Finance to develop and monitor residential budgets. Ensure staffing and resource allocations are aligned with census, acuity, and program needs. Support inventory management, procurement, and facility maintenance coordination for each unit. Crisis & Safety Leadership

Lead response protocols for critical incidents, safety concerns, and behavioral escalations within residential settings. Ensure all staff understand and adhere to emergency procedures, de-escalation protocols, and communication expectations. Coordinate with the Safety & Security team to conduct regular walkthroughs, risk assessments, and unit checks. Other Job Duties & Responsibilities

Perform other duties as assigned. Maintains and/or increases knowledge, skills, and abilities. Attends agency and client-related meetings and/or committees as necessary and/or as assigned. Participates in and contributes to agency-related professional in-service training. Serve in the on-call leadership/administrator rotation to provide coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Represent residential programming in internal committees, leadership meetings, and partner convenings. Participate in planning for new program initiatives, renovations, and campus-wide strategic priorities. Contribute to campus-wide culture-building and trauma-informed workforce development efforts. Supervision

This position will supervise Program Managers, Assistant Directors, and other residential leadership roles. Job Qualifications

Education, Training, and/or Experience: A Master’s degree in Social Work or counseling related field; A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in residential treatment programming, providing therapeutic, social or program services to children and families; and, A minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

Preferred: Ohio LISW-S or LPCC-S Must have and maintain a valid Ohio Driver's License, appropriate driving record, and appropriate insurance coverage always (as required by agency policy and/or insurance carriers). Core Competencies

Mobility: Ability to move freely throughout the campus, including walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. Lifting: Capable of lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Visual Acuity: Adequate vision to read and interpret documents, monitor activities, and perform job-related tasks. Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, in various settings. Hearing: Adequate hearing to respond to communication and emergency situations. Physical Endurance: Ability to maintain physical and mental stamina during extended work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. May be required to perform holds. Environmental Adaptability: Ability to work in various environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, and adapt to changing conditions.
