Overview
We are partnered with a globally successful, highly impactful biopharmaceutical organization that is seeking a
Senior Director of Upstream Development
to drive upstream biologics manufacturing. This role leads a team of cell culture scientists to develop and scale upstream processes for monoclonal antibodies, viral vectors, and other therapeutics. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and be committed to scientific excellence and employee development. This is a key leadership role supporting both clinical and commercial manufacturing pipelines. It is based in Indiana and the company is well-resourced to offer comprehensive relocation.
Base pay range $200,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Lead development and optimization of CHO cell culture processes, including media formulation and bioreactor design.
Oversee scale-up of upstream processes from lab to manufacturing scale, ensuring robustness and consistency.
Drive innovation through implementation of strategic initiatives and evaluation of new technologies.
Collaborate cross-functionally with downstream, analytical, regulatory, and QA/QC teams to integrate upstream solutions.
Manage technology transfers to internal or external GMP facilities and support regulatory submissions.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field with at least 10 years in upstream process development.
Deep experience with CHO and HEK293 systems for protein and viral vector production.
Expertise in mammalian cell culture, media optimization, bioreactor operations, and process scale-up.
Proficiency in automated systems such as Ambr250 and strong understanding of DOE methodologies.
Proven leadership in cross-functional teams and experience working with CDMOs and regulatory documentation.
