Overview The Global Growth & Opportunity division focuses on catalyzing sustainable, transformative change in developing countries, with a focus on nutrition, including large-scale food fortification (LSFF). The Nutrition program strategy team works to address micronutrient deficiencies through LSFF development, implementation, and scaling, delivering data, insights, technical assistance, innovations in micronutrients and food vehicles, and governance for LSFF programs that align with SDG 2.
Your Role As a Senior Program Officer (SPO) on the Nutrition team, you will manage and grow a portfolio of investments that advance technology and product innovations for food fortification programs in LMICs. You will collaborate with technical experts across the Nutrition team, Global Development Division, and the Foundation to advance LSFF strategic goals. This role reports to the Deputy Director, Nutrition, Research and Development.
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located without visa sponsorship.
Location: Seattle, WA. Domestic or international relocation support is available.
What You'll Do
Invest in and manage initiatives focused on improving large-scale food fortification through technology- and product-focused innovation.
Develop frameworks to prioritize investments in technology domains and identify nutrition innovations with transformative potential in LMICs.
Build relationships with universities, private sector, and NGO partners to advance the R&D agenda and support grantees.
Contribute to the external LSFF product innovation ecosystem through conferences and industry activities.
Stay current with nutritional science and provide input for Nutrition team documents and strategic grantees.
Consult with grantees to achieve impact, conduct site visits, provide technical guidance, coordinate meetings, and track milestones across investments.
Manage complex projects and consortia across the product development continuum, including regulatory aspects.
Provide input into the R&D portfolio direction to the Nutrition Leadership Team.
Develop investment opportunities and manage grants and relationships with grantees.
Review letters of inquiry and proposals; draft concise funding recommendations and progress reports for leadership.
Manage portfolio documentation, grant budgeting, and reporting with a focus on operational efficiency and impact.
Prepare briefs and synthesize relevant literature.
Collaborate with other foundation teams to align nutrition efforts with broader goals and ensure a coordinated approach toward reducing morbidity and improving neurodevelopment outcomes.
Plan and execute activities in support of internal strategic planning and serve as a source of technical guidance for LSFF innovations.
Your Experience
Master’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in food science & nutrition, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
Minimum 10+ years of R&D and product development experience in the life sciences, preferably nutrition.
Experience working with organizations in LMICs is preferred.
Proven ability to manage a complex portfolio of research and development products for human health; private sector product development experience is desirable.
Experience managing multiple partner interests and leading multi-stakeholder partnerships.
Strong technical contributions recognized through publications or presentations; robust network with scientists in universities, private sector, NGOs, etc.
Understanding of latest nutritional science and its application to LMICs and LSFF contexts.
Experience across product development domains (clinical, regulatory, manufacturing scale-up) is a plus.
Strong analytic skills to interpret progress and guide projects toward impact.
Effective collaboration in a matrix environment and ability to synthesize dense technical information for diverse audiences.

Salary : The salary range for this role is $233,600 to $362,200 USD. Seattle and Washington, DC locations have related ranges. Actual placement depends on skills and experience.
