The Oshkosh Chamber actively promotes and cultivates a thriving business climate while advancing the interests of its members and the community. With a focus on economic and business development, workforce and talent retention, advocacy for business and industry, and member programs and services, the Oshkosh Chamber seeks a dynamic and experienced professional to join the team as the Economic Development Director. Position : Economic Development Director Responsibilities
Develops and implements an Annual Program of Work and budget to guide the Oshkosh Chamber economic development programs and related activities. Provides financial, consulting, and/or data analysis services to advance the sustainability and growth of more than 100 new, existing, and prospective Oshkosh area business clients per year. Provides support to key projects, local site opportunities, and/or national prospects that further drive business investment and growth. Engages with local, regional, and state economic development stakeholders to further develop the visibility and positive business image of Oshkosh within the state and region. Responds appropriately to inquiries from businesses considering start-up, expansion, or relocation in Oshkosh. Administers the Oshkosh Chamber’s Revolving Loan Fund program (RLF). Coordinates the WSA Panel Series Program. Provides professional assistance to entrepreneurs seeking to start a business. Promotes and coordinates financial, technical training, and other assistance programs for the benefit of local businesses and prospects. Provides professional assistance to existing businesses. Conducts BRE visits with Oshkosh employers to understand their needs, serving as a liaison between businesses and local government entities to address issues and develop working solutions. Responsible for attracting new business, including trade show efforts. Assembles and maintains data files and reports related to existing industrial and commercial buildings/sites, demographics, economic indicators, and related statistical information, financial programs, resource agencies, state and federal programs, and business planning information. Develops, markets, and implements local, state, and federal business financial incentive programs to promote private investment and job creation. Takes a leadership role in developing programs and initiatives to address new trends and needs of the business community and establishes a collaborative working relationship with local, regional, and state economic development partners. Serves as an advocate for economic development and communicates accomplishments. Other duties as directed by the Chamber President and CEO. Qualifications
Education and/or Experience A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, economics, marketing, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Experience in economic development, real estate, marketing, public relations, technology, or community development is preferred. EDFP, CEcD, or NDC and IEDC coursework is desirable but not necessary. Abilities and Skills Strong interpersonal and communication, both oral and written, skills. Ability to motivate and manage volunteers. Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a multi-task environment. Demonstrated ability to interact and coordinate with other organizations, including governmental operations, foundations, and other community partners. Strong organizational skills and the ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks. Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and effectively with the public and other employees. Ability to work independently and in a team environment and make decisions in accordance with corporation rules, policies, and regulations. Ability to operate common office equipment. Exceptional people skills with an outgoing personality. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Must have use of a vehicle for required travel and must possess a valid driver’s license.
