International Relations Undergraduate | Strategic Resourcer | Recruitment and Selection | Airswift Location: Glastonbury, CT (Full-Time, On-Site) Primary Purpose
Oversee and manage the execution of specialty fabricated steel products for highway safety and infrastructure projects. Lead project engineering responsibilities from bid to delivery, ensuring alignment with industry specifications, contract requirements, and organizational objectives. Coordinate across estimating, drafting, procurement, and manufacturing departments to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality execution of a diverse project backlog. You will manage a small team including estimators and drafters and report directly to senior leadership. This role is essential to maintaining product quality, production efficiency, and schedule compliance across 50+ concurrent projects. Duties and Responsibilities
Interpret and apply project specifications, contract plans, and DOT guidelines. Perform material take-offs and create detailed cost estimates for steel fabrication. Review and prepare AutoCAD structural drawings for customer submittals and approvals. Coordinate procurement and manufacturing schedules to meet project deadlines. Manage item numbers, bills of material, and inventory allocations for precise cost and resource control. Define and manage NDT and quality control requirements. Resolve production and product issues with a hands-on approach to process improvement. Maintain ownership of delivery timelines and overall product line profitability. Lead and mentor a small team of detailers and estimators. Foster collaboration across internal departments to meet customer expectations. Organize, prioritize, and manage a diverse backlog of 50+ concurrent construction projects. Develop and maintain detailed production and project plans, including resource allocation, key deliverables, and timelines. Collaborate across departments to proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring schedule adherence and workflow efficiency. Ensure products ship in full compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and delivery timelines. Communicate project status, risks, and milestones clearly to stakeholders and leadership. Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering required. Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in steel fabrication, highway, or related construction industries (15+ preferred). Proven track record of managing high volumes of simultaneous construction or manufacturing projects. Project and product management experience in a deadline-driven environment. Proficient in structural steel detailing using AutoCAD. Knowledge of steel procurement, fabrication processes, and manufacturing equipment. Demonstrated experience in production or project planning, preferably in a manufacturing or construction environment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expertise in interpreting engineering drawings and DOT specifications. Familiarity with cost accounting and material control within a manufacturing environment. High proficiency in Microsoft Excel for project tracking and reporting. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Effective leadership and decision-making skills. Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, can-do attitude. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple high-impact projects with tight deadlines. Ability to lead with empathy and accountability in a close-knit team environment. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to effectively present plans, updates, and ideas to cross-functional teams. Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and accountability to deliver high-impact outcomes and inspire team performance. Licenses and Certifications
None required, but familiarity with DOT standards is highly desirable. Other Qualifications
Must be available to work onsite, Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM. Office-based role with some collaboration across production and engineering floors.
