Assistant/Associate Vice President for Emergency Management, Transportation and University Safety Position details: Full Time, On-Site at the designated campus location. Division: Dean of the College; Department: Campus Safety. Hiring wage/salary: Assistant Vice President: $125,000 - $135,000; Associate Vice President: $135,000 - $145,600. Responsibilities

Leadership for the Emergency Operations Center during crisis response, as well as emergency preparedness through tabletop exercises and briefings. Development of effective emergency protocols and preparedness plans for the University’s business continuity. Oversee overall health and safety of the Colgate community, including faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Develop, implement, and evaluate all University safety programs and services within the AVP’s portfolio. Ensure compliance with federal and University standards and regulations for safety/security and reporting, including Clery and Hazing Prevention. Cultivate relationships and coordination with local law enforcement agencies and mutual aid functions. Participate in labor agreement negotiations and other labor-related issues, as required. Deliver (direct and oversight) for security/safety training to the campus community. Provide direct oversight for the University’s Campus Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Parking, and Transportation departments. Ensure departmental operations align with institutional priorities of accessibility, sustainability, and reliability. Oversee compliance with state and federal transportation regulations and university motor vehicle policies and safety standards. Monitor budgets and steward University resources within the AVP’s portfolio. Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and minimum of ten years of experience in emergency management, safety and security, law enforcement, fire safety, risk management, or related field with at least five years in a leadership role. Proven managerial ability with formal supervisory/management training and responsibilities. Additional qualifications including demonstrated success in managing complex projects, leading individuals and teams, building consensus, exercising sound judgment, and adapting to change. Expertise in law enforcement and security practices, preferably within a small, private, rural liberal arts university context. Certifications in environmental protection, health and safety, and emergency management programs. Ability to deliver training and outreach to faculty, staff, and students to ensure regulatory compliance and risk minimization. Experience managing financial, technical, facilities, and human resources across assigned areas; budget development aligned to division goals. Ability to communicate with a broad range of campus partners and external constituents; develop and apply policies, protocols, and workflows to support department operations within university guidelines. Strong communication skills and ability to develop and deliver effective policy. Experience in fire and life safety and emergency management; familiarity with federal/state transportation regulations and safety standards. Knowledge of environmental health, safety, and emergency management regulations, standards, and codes; ability to produce reports on compliance and incidents. Demonstrated respect for diversity and ability to earn trust and collaborate across a diverse campus community. Education and Certifications

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master’s degree in emergency management, criminal justice, or related fields is preferred. Military service, fire department, emergency medical training, or related certifications are helpful. A current valid driver’s license is required in accordance with the University’s policy.
