System Administrator III Job Description

Summary of Position

The System Administrator III is responsible for managing and supporting enterprise applications within a Credit Union's diverse computing environment, featuring multiple real-time integration points. This role involves analyzing technical requirements, implementing, and maintaining systems throughout their lifecycle. The System Administrator provides project and business analysis support for strategic initiatives, internal process improvements, system upgrades, and integration of key business systems to optimize the use of information systems in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

Principal Accountabilities

Collaboration and System Enhancement Collaborates with end users, analysts, peer administrators, and management to conceptualize and develop new software integrations and applications. Analyzes existing workflows and system challenges to identify operational needs and enhance business processes by leveraging existing software features. Technological Solutions and Automation Develops solutions by analyzing processes and workflows, providing automation improvements. Validates results through testing and assists with implementing new procedures to address organizational information challenges. Project Support Provides technical support for projects by evaluating options and developing project plans to ensure proper coordination and sequencing of tasks. System Maintenance and Security Maintains the integrity, performance, reliability, and security of application systems. Installs and supports server- and PC-based software, reviews enhancements/features, coordinates updates, and makes recommendations regarding vendor/application alignment with infrastructure. Database Administration In collaboration with the IT Architect and vendors, follows SQL best practices to provide administration and technical support for in-house database servers. Issue Resolution Investigates and resolves enterprise application functionality issues, providing second-level troubleshooting support for core system issues and ancillary applications. System Configuration Develops and modifies job control language and adjusts system parameters per documentation to incorporate new features or resolve production issues based on Credit Union needs. API and Software Development Identifies opportunities to utilize existing APIs and SDKs, gathering business requirements as feasible. Writes, translates, codes, and maintains software integrations and applications per specifications, developing scripts to enhance functionality or performance. Reporting and Data Extraction Produces core system reports and data extracts in various formats and delivery channels based on end-user requirements. Supports departments with accurate and timely responses and creates/maintains Credit Union forms with core system integration. Change Management and Testing Conducts research and testing, adhering to change management protocols to implement change requests, new business processes, or applications. Documentation Ensures current and complete documentation of system specifications, writing technical procedures and recovery documentation, and maintaining accurate internal technical documentation. Backup and Recovery Coordinates and establishes backup and recovery procedures for applications and databases with network administrators, verifying and testing disaster recovery for all software applications. Level III Accountabilities

In addition to the above, Level III responsibilities may include:

Leadership in Application Administration Serves as a leader for application administration across multiple operating systems, hardware types, and application servers, providing primary support and expertise for critical applications such as OnBase, Fiserv Spectrum core system, and Data Warehouse. Server and Data Management Demonstrates understanding of server administration and operating system environments. Manages organizational data resources, working with vendors to ensure data availability, integrity, security, and efficiency, recovering corrupted data, and eliminating redundancy. Application Installation and Maintenance Shows proficiency in installing, updating, tuning, and diagnosing internal and third-party applications, with strong experience in maintaining current Windows server products. Disaster Recovery Strategy In conjunction with the IT Architect, develops cost-effective and efficient disaster recovery strategies for applications and databases to meet business recovery objectives. Deployment Expertise Demonstrates proficiency in creating and maintaining deployment packages/scripts. Technical Guidance Provides technical guidance and instruction to IS staff members, serving as a team lead. Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Level III : Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience. Without a degree, a minimum of 10+ years of experience as outlined below, plus relevant certifications such as CBAP, MCTS (Database), MCITP (Database), or comparable information system management certifications. Experience in successfully maintaining and implementing Fiserv Spectrum or directly related applications. Skills

Technical

Knowledge of relational database and query concepts. Experience with relational database software (e.g., MSSQL, Oracle, Access). Knowledge and experience supporting applications in a WAN environment. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft desktop applications. Basic knowledge of networking technologies and concepts (e.g., LAN/WAN/Firewall). Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Java, .NET, SQL, Perl a plus). Knowledge of financial institution systems (e.g., core processing, reporting) is a plus. Preferred certifications: CBAP, MCTS (Database), MCITP (Database), MCSA, PMP. Ability to create and organize reports synthesizing complex information. Ability to analyze financial and operational data. Communication

Ability to coach technical and non-technical users at all organizational levels, providing explanations or instructions in one-on-one settings in person or over the phone. Ability to independently resolve technical issues with third parties. Ability to research, read, analyze, and interpret procedure manuals, business periodicals, and professional journals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals for diverse audiences. Problem Solving

Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed. Ability to remain on call for after-hours support. Willingness to travel to remote worksites, including DR/BCP centers and branches. Ability to arrive at work routinely and promptly. Ability to visually and physically inspect cabling behind objects such as desks, computers, and printers, including moving or lifting equipment. Ability to respond to problems and install requests by physically accessing all end-user workstations without assistance. RCA Security Clearance required.
