Overview
The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Vice President (AVP) of Clinical Financial Operations. The AVP is responsible for supervising and managing financial policies, financial management, and financial analysis for the University of Miami clinical operations, including the hospital, clinics, and physician practices. The AVP monitors operational and financial performance and develops and implements improvement action plans to enhance financial operations and coordination across the clinical continuum. The role maintains collaborative relationships with senior leaders and managers to support change management and ongoing financial optimization with clinical leadership. Responsibilities
Develops and tracks financial performance metric standards across the clinical enterprise for internal achievement and external benchmarking. Educates operational leadership on the relevance of financial metrics. Ensures monthly financial reviews and productivity reviews are conducted consistently and coordinated across the clinical enterprise. Presents financial reports to operational leadership on a routine basis. Coordinates and assists leadership in strategic plan coordination and financial oversight of pro-forma business plan results to actuals with a focus on opportunities for improvements and efficiencies. Directs operating plan preparation and forecasting in conjunction with the office of financial planning and analysis. Monitors financial performance of service lines across the enterprise. Serves as the Clinical Finance representative on committees as requested. Trains, mentors, hires, and supervises department staff as needed. Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding assets, reliability of reporting, and efficiency of operations. Creates an effective control environment, conducts risk assessment, and implements and monitors controls. Department-Specific Functions
The AVP, Clinical Financial Operations reports directly to the Chief Accounting Officer with a matrix reporting relationship to the Clinical Business Operations leader. Education
Bachelor’s degree in finance, healthcare administration, or accounting. Certification and Licensing
CPA preferred. Experience
Minimum 10+ years of equivalent experience in a healthcare system/academic healthcare setting. Minimum 5+ years supporting leadership. Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes
Knowledge of business and management principles. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate and supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. Ability to translate and present complicated concepts into simple items with actionable analysis.
