Senior Environmental Engineer

Georgia Pacific . The position is based out of the Palatka, FL mill, with the potential to support other Consumer Products Group (CPG) facilities. The Senior Environmental Engineer will join the environmental team to strengthen compliance and stewardship capabilities, delivering environmental excellence through sustainable management systems. The candidate will be self-motivated with strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, and will report to the Facility Environmental Manager, collaborating with mill, regional and GP environmental teams. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. The Palatka mill is a key part of GP’s Consumer Products portfolio, producing brands such as Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, Brawny, and Sparkle. The facility features multiple paper machines, a state-of-the-art Daily Operations Center, and a large workforce serving a foundational role in the local community. What You Will Do
Maintain and refine environmental management systems to comply with regulatory requirements (including Air Permitting, TVOP, CEMS/COMS, Stack testing, NPDES, Cluster Rule BMP, SPCC, FRP, Stormwater, Wetlands, Waste, Recycling and Beneficial use). Specific responsibilities will be determined based on experience, mill needs, and personal interest. Apply subject matter expertise and strong communication skills to help operations meet environmental compliance requirements, pursue stewardship opportunities, and drive environmental excellence through disciplined operations. Leverage technology enablers and best practices to systematically manage compliance obligations and improve resilience, consistency, verifiability, efficiency, and effectiveness of environmental programs. Plan and lead assessments of environmental programs to identify opportunities to improve performance and close gaps. Build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies. Develop knowledge of mill processes, risks and their impact on environmental performance. Create and implement mobile inspections to meet water and waste compliance obligations. Periodically rotate on-call to provide environmental support to operations and review daily compliance status outside of regular business hours. Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical, Environmental or a related engineering or science field. Five (5+) or more years of environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. What Will Put You Ahead
Experience in environmental programs in a large manufacturing environment. Experience with air regulations (Title V, Greenhouse Gas, MACT, NSPS, PSD) and air program implementation and permitting. Experience managing industrial wastewater treatment facilities and NPDES Programs. Experience with Hazardous/Universal Waste Management programs. Pulp and paper process and regulatory knowledge. Experience analyzing process or environmental data trends. Experience with IoT devices and mobile inspection platforms. Hiring Philosophy
