Prairie View A&M University Patrol Lieutenant Job Title Patrol Lieutenant Agency Prairie View A&M University Department University Police Proposed Minimum Salary $34.33 hourly Job Location Prairie View, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Police Lieutenant, under direction, supervises officers and police personnel and enforces, prevents, and investigates violations of the law and University rules and regulations. This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. Responsibilities
Supervises a police sergeant and a shift of police/communication officers. Evaluates, counsels and advises subordinates. Approves subordinate leave. Reviews and approves reports and case files submitted by subordinates. Supervises a squad of security officers and/or parking officers. Assimilates and interprets administrative directives and policies and ensures implementation. Patrols campus and acts as a point of contact for other agencies. Provides professional skills to in-service seminars and training of subordinate officers. Investigates offenses and arrests offenders of State Criminal Law and Transportation Code violations. Prepares comprehensive reports. Manages crime scenes and evidence collection and processing. Attends meetings with other departments on and off campus. Serves as an appointed chairperson or member of committees, recruit officer review and officer promotion boards. Testifies in Justice of the Peace Court as well as County and District Courts and student judicial hearings. Interacts with the public by speaking on various topics dealing with law enforcement and community policing. Performs administrative duties and other duties as assigned. Required Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent Twelve years of experience as a licensed Police Officer. Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population. Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions. Required Registrations, Certifications, And Licenses
Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) advanced certification. Must have a State of Texas class 'C' vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Other Requirements
Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment. Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
