Application Opening : March 21, 2025 Application Deadline : April 1, 2025 Salary : $60,216 - $76,856 Annually The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of multiple divisions - the San Francisco Health Network, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services, and Administration. Under supervision, performs a variety of tasks in connection with the preparation, storage and serving of foodstuffs, including dietary foods; may supervise a small group of Food Service Workers in an assigned food service activity; ensures that assigned dining and kitchen areas and equipment are kept clean and in good repair; and performs related duties as required. Essential functions include: Sets up food stations, counters and tables for food service per policy and procedures. Assists in the preparation of regular and diet food including standard formulas and delivering bulk nourishments to the wards. Assists cooks in basic food preparation by light cooking; panning up food; and prepping food items. Assists in the preparation of food products by measuring and weighing appropriate amounts of ingredients called for by the recipe. Serves food to customers and patients in cafeterias, dining halls and hospital wards. Maintains daily supply of serving utensils & items needed for service. Performs routine auxiliary tasks such as carrying supplies to and from storage rooms. Assembles patient's meals by reading menus which indicate dietary requirements. Lifts 50 lbs. of foods in bulk and transports to storage area; Lifts hot trays or pans of 40 lbs. with prepared foods. Handles cash appropriately by verifying the cash register; keying in accurate charges; making change accurately. Receives, stores and issues food and supply items according to invoices, requisitions, and other guides. Maintains department sanitation by washing and sanitizing kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas. Acts as lead worker or team leader to a small group of food service workers by setting up the tray line and clean-up operations. Trains new food service workers in the performance of their tasks and orients them on department policies and procedures. Observes the workplace to ensure safe practices are carried out and reports any unsafe or unsanitary conditions. Assists in preparing and documenting daily reports. Replenishes food supplies and monitors supply levels. Schedules and assigns duties to meet meal schedules and inspects their work. Checks the tray line for completeness and proper appearance. The 2606 Food Service Worker may perform other duties as assigned. How to qualify

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION:

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent; AND EXPERIENCE:

One (1) year of work experience in the operation of a large, high-volume food service organization. Note:

Candidates will be administered a written multiple-choice test. Candidates must achieve a passing score on both examinations to continue in the selection process. Exam Score Results/Banked Scores: Candidates must achieve a passing score on the written multiple-choice exam. Certification: The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of 10 Scores. Eligible List/Score Report: Once you pass the exam, you will be placed onto an eligible list and given a score and a rank.
