Forensic Scientist III – Vacancy Details

The current vacancy is for Forensic Scientist III in the Crime Lab, Latent Print Unit. This position operates under administrative direction and the laboratory is ISO 17025 accredited. The successful candidate will prepare and analyze chemical and evidentiary samples in criminal identification and investigations, adhere to accreditation standards, participate in proficiency testing, courtroom testimony monitoring, training, quality audits, and accreditation inspections. The role may involve lead worker duties within the area of assignment under the supervision of the Crime Lab Unit Manager and may include directing other staff as needed. The position requires extensive case documentation, validation of procedures, and technical/administrative review of reports and case notes, as applicable, and involves reporting findings and providing testimony. Salary:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the natural or physical sciences, forensic science, criminalistics, or closely related field. Additional coursework may be necessary. Successful completion of an in-house training program as a Forensic Scientist I, or a minimum of two (2) years journey level experience in latent print examination, with exposure to the administrative aspects of the work. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Such must be clearly demonstrated on the application for consideration. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Successful completion of science-related coursework per OSAC or NIST equivalents, including General Biology and basic Fingerprint Classification and Comparison Courses; knowledge and experience of principles, methods and current techniques used in latent print analysis. Forensic Scientist II – Role Summary

Under administrative direction, prepares and analyzes chemical and evidentiary samples in criminal identification and investigations. In an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, employees must adhere to accreditation standards and participate in proficiency testing, courtroom testimony monitoring, continued technical training, quality audits, and accreditation inspections by ANAB or other accrediting bodies. The position is journey level and involves moderately complex casework under supervision; responsibilities include formal reporting and testifying to findings. Forensic Scientist III – Role Summary

Under administrative direction, the Forensic Scientist III analyzes latent print evidence, conducts analysis, comparison, and evaluation of latent prints; prepares equipment and materials; examines materials for adherence to procedures; conducts laboratory examinations; isolates, collects, and analyzes evidentiary items; generates data, reviews findings, and compiles reports for judicial use. The incumbent may perform administrative/technical reviews, testify in depositions and court, conduct validations, maintenance, troubleshooting of equipment, and participate in ongoing professional development. The person may provide training and guidance to other unit personnel and may act in the absence of the Crime Lab Technical Leader or Unit Manager. The role requires occasional lead duties and may involve internal audits and occasional other duties as directed. Responsibilities (highlights) Examine latent print evidence; analyze, compare, and evaluate prints. Prepare evidence for analysis and conduct preliminary testing. Maintain equipment, perform validations, and ensure compliance with procedures. Testify to analytical results in depositions and court. Participate in proficiency testing and accreditation activities; stay current with trends in the field. Provide training to unit personnel and assist in audits as directed.
