JOB DESCRIPTION: The district is committed to ensuring effective school leadership at every school. Syracuse Vice Principals provide transformational leadership in planning and managing one of the district's schools. Responsibilities include implementing a school instructional model focused on high student achievement, building a positive school climate, leveraging research and data to drive instructional practice, and developing a high-performing staff. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Promote a widely shared belief that every child deserves expert instruction. Set high performance goals for self and others. Establish and enforce high standards for excellence. Focus school activities on student achievement. Assist in creating a sense of urgency for early successes. Plan and take action to achieve goals under the direction of the principal. Identify potential issues and proactively implement solutions. Engage teachers to drive consensus and facilitate change. Establish a culture of learning and achievement. Coach teachers on instructional activities and results. Organize adult teams to reflect the school vision. Encourage learning and provide feedback to build leadership capacity. Inspire excellence and promote a positive school culture. Analyze complex information to formulate strategic vision. Use data to assess performance and drive decision-making. Perform additional related duties as required. EDUCATIONAL & PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree or Certification in Educational Leadership or related field. Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in an urban district. Strong belief that all students can learn at high levels. Experience in urban schools to accelerate student performance. Demonstrated success in creating a positive school culture. Knowledge of best practices in education policy and research. Experience in educator professional development. Demonstrated success in school leadership activities. Exemplary attendance record expected. Training in Culturally Relevant Education (preferred). Preference for internal candidates from the Syracuse Aspiring Leadership Academy (SALA). City Residents are encouraged to apply! CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS: Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) from an accredited College or University.
