Scientist - Technical Expert (NWS 00826) Overview
THIS POSITION IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer's mission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy. Position Details
Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS. Essential Duties
Propose queries to pull appropriate personnel dose data. Train and advise new staff on the existing database table structure. Communicate with the External Dosimetry group leader on data structure and quality. Collaborate with project management and teams to ensure reporting of accurate data. Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies. Perform other job duties as assigned. Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Associate's degree in a technical discipline or the equivalent combination of education and significant related experience and demonstrated ability to lead independent work. Technical knowledge of LLNL's radiation database system and methods to query the data. Experience utilizing SQL, Oracle, REMS, DOCS, and BLIMS. Effective customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative, and management personnel and work effectively independently or as a team member. Analytical approach to problem solving with excellent troubleshooting ability. Capacity to handle many functions at one time and adjust to rapidly changing priorities and schedule while prioritizing goals. Intermediate level experience with MS Office Suite including Excel, Word, and TEAMS. Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Experience working within the LLNL dosimetry laboratories. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing superior customer service. Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical evaluation may be required. Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Anticipated Clearance Level: DOE Q-level clearance or equivalent, or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire. Applicants will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. All L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
