On-site Interpreter (Independent Contractor) – Baystate Interpreters, Inc. is seeking dedicated and professional interpreters to join our team as 1099 independent contractors. In this role, you will facilitate communication in education, legal, and community settings, enabling effective interactions. Our ideal candidates are flexible, reliable, and possess an understanding of cultural nuances involved in interpreting. This position offers competitive per diem rates and opportunities to broaden skills in medical and legal interpretation. Excellence in interpretation is achieved by partnering with skilled interpreters and is supported by interpreter training to help you grow your career. Key Responsibilities
Adhere to all Baystate Interpreters, Inc. policies related to information security and confidentiality, including HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, and other regulatory requirements. Provide accurate on-site interpretation between English and designated target languages. Follow interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Baystate Interpreters, Inc. and clients. Follow ethics standards and uphold confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, professionalism, and cultural competence in every assignment (based on IMIA, NCIHC, ATA, NAJIT, ISO guidelines). Establish and maintain positive, professional interactions with patients, customers, healthcare providers, and clinical staff. Continuously improve specialized vocabulary and subject matter knowledge (e.g., medical, legal, social services) to meet client needs. Demonstrate professionalism, neutrality, and confidentiality throughout the interpretation process. Provide high-quality interpretation with adherence to industry standards, without omissions or additions. Exhibit strong interpersonal and customer service skills during sensitive interactions. Effectively manage assignments with punctuality, preparedness, and adaptability to meet various client needs and settings. Qualifications
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Proficiency in English and at least one additional language. Strong communication skills and a composed demeanor in challenging situations. Flexibility and reliability to meet per diem assignment demands. Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills for accurate interpretation. Familiarity with HIPAA and confidentiality regulations. Completion of a Legal Interpreter Training Course from a well-regarded institution (required). All languages are welcome and considered.
