Labor & Employee Relations Manager

University of New Hampshire The University seeks a Labor & Employee Relations Manager to support the administration of all collective bargaining agreements within Academic Affairs. The Manager acts as a trusted resource for managers, supervisors and academic leaders to interpret and enforce collective bargaining agreements, with the goal of counseling faculty and staff at the earliest stage to proactively reduce grievances and foster productive relationships.
Responsibilities
Administer the collective bargaining agreement between the University and the UNH-GEU-UAW, representing Graduate Employees.
Collaboratively develop and deliver formal training to managers and supervisors; manage the intake and evaluation of grievances; provide guidance on appropriate progressive, corrective action for employees.
Provide support to the Graduate School on all Employee and Labor Relations aspects related to Graduate Employees and their supervisors.
Support the Provost Office, colleges and schools across the University; serve as a point of contact on employee and labor relations to ensure operational consistency across Academic Affairs.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent education/experience; 4-7 years in employee and labor relations or an equivalent combination.
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.
Conflict resolution skills; effective written and oral communication, including training delivery.
Advanced knowledge of employee relations practices, labor/employment law, and labor negotiations principles and techniques.
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop professional relationships within Academic Affairs and with Finance, General Counsel and Human Resources.
Proficiency in interpreting collective bargaining agreements and personnel policies; familiarity with FMLA, ADA, FLSA.
Ability to research institutional policies, collective bargaining agreements and procedures; strong judgment in responding to employee relations requests across Academic Affairs.
Experience handling difficult or volatile situations with emotional intelligence and political savvy.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or Advanced degree in business, human resources management or law.
Knowledge or willingness to learn areas of University operations including human resources, campus systems, and employee management processes (workload, promotion and tenure).
Public sector, higher education labor and employee relations experience.
