The division serves multiple market segments through its worldwide business divisions, service offices and a network of Authorized Integrators. Reporting into the Senior Director of Solutions Architecture, the Solutions Architect (Lead) is an impactful subject matter expert who closely engages across all functions of Acuity Intelligent Spaces. Responsible for designing, developing and delivering scalable innovative solutions that showcase the best integrated capabilities of AIS’ hardware, software and services and meet customers’ needs. The role supports the design and integration of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Controls Automation solutions, with a focus on Higher Education and Commercial smart building sectors. This role requires expertise in BMS & HVAC controls, IoT, cloud-based analytics, lighting automation, and smart building technologies. The Solutions Architect will work with sales, product management, engineering, and customers to enable scalable and innovative solutions that drive energy efficiency, operational excellence, and sustainability in commercial and industrial buildings.
Responsibilities
Solution Design: Architect and design integrated BMS and controls automation solutions, incorporating IoT, AI-driven analytics, and cloud connectivity. Ensure that proposed solutions are scalable, sustainable, and capable of delivering the desired outcomes.
Architecture Blueprints: Develop and deliver comprehensive architecture blueprints that integrate 1st party ecosystem products, ensuring seamless interoperability and scalability.
Technical Insights: Provide insights into system architecture, networking, security, and interoperability between different building control systems.
Customer Engagement: Build trusted advisor relationships by collaborating with clients to understand requirements, conduct site assessments, and recommend tailored solutions that align with operational and sustainability goals.
System Integrator Engagement: Partner with system integrators and relevant technology vendors to support adoption and successful implementation of recommended solution architectures.
Standards & Compliance: Ensure proposed integrated solutions adhere to industry standards such as BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, and cybersecurity best practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with sales, product management and technical support teams to develop proposals, technical documentation, and proof-of-concept demonstrations, and relay customer insights to internal teams for continuous innovation.
Continuous Innovation: Stay up to date with emerging trends in smart buildings, energy management, digital twins, and predictive maintenance to drive technological advancements.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in solutions architecture, system integration, or engineering within the building automation, IoT, or smart infrastructure sectors.
Proven expertise in BMS platforms (e.g., Distech, Johnson Controls, Niagara, Schneider Electric, etc.) and control systems programming.
Applied understanding of IT infrastructure networking for BMS integration.
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and edge computing.
Hands-on experience with protocols like BACnet, Modbus, KNX, Zigbee, EnOcean, LoRaWAN, MQTT.
Familiarity with data analytics, AI-driven automation, and digital twin technologies.
Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferable Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Other
Occasional travel may be required to meet with customers, attend industry events, or visit project sites.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving market conditions and customer needs.
Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
