Role and Responsibilities The Produce Department Manager ensures that customer needs are met and exceeded through effective day-to-day management of the operations and merchandising functions for the assigned department. This includes overseeing product conditions, display areas, back room, equipment, schematics, and inventory. The Manager provides leadership and direction to Department associates to promote a culture aligned with The Save Mart Companies’ mission and core values. This role trains and develops employees to enable their career growth and manages department performance to optimize results.

Provide customers with a remarkable shopping experience by training and holding store associates accountable for excellent customer service

Achieve department financials (sales, profit and loss, projections, metrics) by identifying and implementing best practices and optimization strategies

Direct department staff with a focus on accountability and high performance

Develop department staff through coaching, performance reviews, goals, and progress checks

Implement department visual merchandising and planograms, ensuring freshness and appealing displays

Oversee schematic implementation, stocking standards, back room organization, and item-to-tag integrity

Manage product rotation, spoilage, shrink, and markdowns; ensure cleanliness and safety of the department

Maintain sign and price integrity and ensure products meet company guidelines for display

Train staff on procedures, safety, and food safety requirements

Order and manage product inventory using available systems; participate in seasonal and promotional planning

Analyze product performance to maximize sales and profitability; manage department inventory accuracy

Ensure produce and floral products are prepared for display according to company policy

Contribute to overall store conditions, including safety, sanitation, and asset protection

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications Education : One year of college (or vocational school, or equivalent knowledge through training or experience)

Experience : Two years Produce Department experience or experience as a Center Store, Meat, or Bakery Department Manager

Other : Available to work a variety of required retail hours

Physical : Store environment requiring standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs, and ability to perform tasks involving bending, kneeling, and reaching

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership, and training skills

Strong customer service and suggestive selling abilities

Organizational, administrative, and math skills; familiarity with department financials

Knowledge of department operations, produce and floral products, and seasonal needs

Understanding of food safety, hazardous materials rules, and visual merchandising

Experience with department tools and equipment; ability to use inventory systems

Familiarity with applicable union contract language

Compensation Hiring pay range:

$29.17 per hour
