Position description UC Berkeley Extension (UNEX) invites applications for a pool of qualified instructors to teach one or more online courses each year for the Arts and Humanities department, focusing on undergraduate, professional, and continuing education in Humanities and Languages. Courses are offered online and may be delivered asynchronously via Canvas or synchronously via Zoom. Most synchronous live online courses are offered in the evening and on weekends (U.S.A. Pacific Time).

Course Subjects: Humanities and Languages, including but not limited to the following areas. For a complete list of courses and descriptions, refer to the departmental link below.

Humanities: American Politics, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, United States History, World History, World Religions

Spanish: Spanish – Beginner, Intermediate I, Intermediate II, Spanish Conversation, Spanish for Medical Professionals

Other Humanities and World Language Subjects: specify in your cover letter

Teaching experience sought includes Classroom Teaching, Synchronous Online Teaching (Zoom/online LMS), and Asynchronous Online Teaching (via LMS).

General duties include supporting student success through inclusive curriculum and pedagogy. Depending on the instruction mode, duties can include syllabus and material development, updating Canvas sites, delivering lectures and activities, and fulfilling all required trainings and policies. Qualifications Basic qualifications: Doctorate or equivalent international degree.

Additional qualifications (required at start): USA residency and USA work authorization for duration of employment; no visa sponsorship is offered.

Preferred qualifications: Doctorate or equivalent in the course subject; 3+ years of professional and/or academic work experience in the subject; 3+ years undergraduate teaching experience as primary instructor; experience teaching at a U.S. college/university; experience creating syllabi, objectives, lectures, activities, assignments, and assessments; experience teaching and/or developing online courses; strong communication and organizational skills; ability to support all students through inclusive pedagogy; proficiency with instructional technologies (Canvas, Panopto, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, etc.).
