Role This role is for a Data Scientist on a close-knit team supporting Special Operations Command North (SOCNORTH) at Peterson SFB, CO. The team helps the command empower and leverage its data for more effective analysis and decision making. As a subject matter expert, the Data Scientist will gather and derive insights from complex data, assist the command with development initiatives, and facilitate digital transformation efforts. The work has a direct impact on mission readiness by making the organization more resilient and data-driven.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines; interpret and analyze complex data sets. Plan, execute, and manage ML projects with cloud-native platforms and advanced ML solutions. Apply methodologies such as data mining, natural language processing, and machine learning. Combine programming, mathematical modeling, statistics, and domain knowledge to analyze data and present actionable results. Work with structured and unstructured large data sets; use distributed SQL, relational and non-relational queries, and languages like Python and R. Perform large-scale data processing with frameworks such as Spark and Hadoop. Develop data visualizations using Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, and R Shiny. Research, design, and implement algorithms to solve complex problems; program in R, Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) or similar languages. Utilize cloud-based data management and ML platforms (e.g., Databricks, IBM Cloud Pak, Cloudera, Snowflake) for data engineering, processing, and modeling. Communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders through digital storytelling.
Requirements
Minimum 1 year of hands-on Data Science experience. Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field. Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python, R). Proficiency in Agile Development and Git operations. Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility. Ability to work on-site in secure spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with DoD. Master’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related fields.
