Overview
The Lead Network Engineer will support a major data center transition and modernization project. This senior-level role will provide hands-on expertise in networking technologies, ensuring the smooth execution of cabling, hardware deployment, inventory management, and equipment replacement. The project involves transitioning from Cisco infrastructure to Aruba, with design and planning handled in partnership with an external vendor. While this role may require occasional onsite presence in Denver during project phases, ongoing responsibilities will be less frequent and focused on high-level oversight, troubleshooting, and mentoring junior staff. This is a 6-12 month contract role with a good prospect for potential permanent hire. After the major data center project is completed, onsite presence will be much less frequent. Responsibilities
Lead the execution of a major network transition project in partnership with external vendors, including cabling, equipment installation, and cutover activities. Provide senior-level technical expertise across Cisco switches, Palo Alto firewalls, Juniper routers, and Aruba solutions. Support the replacement of end-of-life Cisco infrastructure with Aruba, ensuring seamless migration and minimal business disruption. Serve as the escalation point and technical lead for a team of network administrators. Oversee inventory management, hardware lifecycle, and in-person data center tasks as needed. Collaborate with vendor partners to validate designs, execute plans, and troubleshoot complex issues. Participate in off-hours or weekend work during project phases, while maintaining a standard senior-level schedule outside of transition activities. Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members, ensuring best practices and knowledge transfer. Ensure network infrastructure meets enterprise standards for performance, scalability, and security. Required Experience
7+ years of experience as a Network Engineer or Network Manager in enterprise environments. Deep expertise in Cisco networking technologies, with hands-on experience in migration or replacement projects. Strong experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Juniper routers, and Aruba networks. Demonstrated ability to lead execution of complex networking projects, including data center transitions.
