Rilevera is an early-stage cybersecurity startup building the world's leading detection management solution. As one of our early engineering hires, you'll help establish our technical foundation with a pragmatic approach, prioritizing performance, security, and maintainability while being strategic about technical debt as we validate our market fit and grow.
The selected candidate will work closely with the CTO and development team to improve and optimize backend features for performance and maintainability. You will own the backend infrastructure, enhancing existing legacy systems and building new features with clean, scalable code that evolves with our business needs. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment where requirements evolve quickly. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both executive and technical stakeholders. We value practical engineering decisions over perfect architecture: build for today\'s requirements while keeping tomorrow\'s scale in mind.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Development: Build high-performance APIs with FastAPI/SQLAlchemy, focusing on efficient database queries, proper caching, and reliable error handling.
Integration Systems: Create flexible frameworks for connecting 5+ security tools using clean adapter patterns and unified APIs.
Advanced Data Patterns: Implement Repository/Unit of Work patterns across graph and relational databases with advanced caching and database optimization strategies.
Performance & Scalability: Implement application-level resilience patterns (circuit breakers, timeouts, retries) and optimize backend performance through efficient database queries, caching strategies, and code optimization to achieve sub-second response times.
AWS Integration: Implement secure cloud services using boto3, including S3 operations, secrets management, and basic Lambda functions.
Security & Compliance: Build secure multi-tenant data isolation and help establish foundations for SOC 2 compliance.
Technical Leadership: Mentor engineers on advanced architectural patterns, lead design reviews, and establish engineering best practices.
Qualifications (Combined)
Python/FastAPI: 4+ years with expert-level FastAPI including async optimization, advanced SQLAlchemy patterns, strict typing, and high-concurrency application design.
Frontend Integration: 4+ years designing backend APIs for React/TypeScript frontends, including WebSocket implementation.
Database Expertise: 6+ years with advanced PostgreSQL optimization, graph databases, and multi-layer caching with Redis.
Distributed Systems: 6+ years designing scalable backend architectures with experience in asynchronous processing patterns, including error handling and system resilience strategies.
API Integration: 4+ years building enterprise integrations with OAuth2, webhooks, and third-party APIs.
Testing & Quality: 6+ years implementing comprehensive testing strategies including unit testing, integration testing, contract testing, and test automation in CI/CD pipelines.
Security Mindset: 4+ years with secure multi-tenant architectures, encryption strategies, and compliance frameworks.
Cloud Experience: 3+ years with AWS services (ECS, S3, Lambda) and Docker containerization.
Startup Experience: Comfortable with rapid iteration, changing requirements, and wearing multiple hats.
Bonus: Cybersecurity domain experience with threat detection, SIEM, or security platform development.
