Overview
JFL Consulting, LLC is seeking an experienced
Senior Network Security Engineer
to ensure the health, performance, and security of critical DoD network infrastructure. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of enterprise networking solutions across LAN/WAN environments, software-defined networks, and secure communications systems. The Senior Network Engineer will provide technical leadership on projects, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cybersecurity and systems teams to deliver secure and resilient network capabilities that meet mission requirements. Responsibilities
Network Design & Implementation Design, implement, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure. Lead LAN/WAN connectivity solutions including routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls, wireless access points, and telephony. Work on new network projects and initiatives, ensuring scalable and secure design. Network Operations & Troubleshooting Monitor network health, availability, and bandwidth utilization. Troubleshoot and resolve complex network performance issues and outages. Conduct capacity planning to ensure infrastructure supports future requirements. Maintenance & Upgrades Maintain and upgrade network hardware, software, firewalls, switches, routers, phones, and access points. Ensure software-defined network (SDN) environments are fully supported and optimized. Implement and document network infrastructure standards and procedures. Security & Compliance Implement and enforce network security measures and best practices. Support compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements and industry standards. Leadership & Collaboration Provide mentorship and training to junior network engineers. Collaborate with system administrators, security engineers, and program managers to ensure integrated operations. Additional Duties Stay current on the latest networking technologies and trends. Other responsibilities as assigned in support of mission success. Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related engineering field preferred. Equivalent military or professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Certificates
Minimum Required Certifications:
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) DoD 8570 IAT II Certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, GCIH, CySA+)
Preferred Certifications:
Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE) Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert (JNCIE)
Experience
10+ years of experience as a Network Engineer with extensive Cisco and Juniper background. Demonstrated expertise in LAN/WAN, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), QoS, and SDN. Prior experience supporting DoD or classified government environments is highly desired. Technical Skills
Expert-level knowledge of Cisco and Juniper IOS. Proficiency in routing/switching protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, QoS). Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex networks. Familiarity with network monitoring and analysis tools. Knowledge
Working technical knowledge of network security tools and defensive tactics. Strong understanding of enterprise network architectures, performance tuning, and capacity planning. Soft Skills
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to brief technical and executive stakeholders. Ability to mentor, lead, and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams. Commitment to professional growth and staying current with emerging networking technologies.
