Ford Motor Company Job Description This isn't just another component design role. We are looking for a passionate and meticulous engineer to become our global Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the clips and retainers that secure these critical electrical systems. You will be the central authority, shaping strategy, driving quality, and ensuring our components are robust and world-class across every vehicle platform. Responsibilities What You'll Do… Own the Global Component Strategy: Lead the end-to-end design, development, validation, and release of all EDS clips and retainers, ensuring they meet Ford's rigorous targets for quality, cost, weight, and performance. Lead and Mentor Supplier Partners: Act as the primary technical leader for our global component suppliers. You will direct their design activities, manage program timelines, troubleshoot complex issues, and hold them accountable for delivering excellence. Serve as the In-House Authority: Be the go-to expert for internal EDS, Vehicle Assembly, and Purchasing teams on plastic materials, injection molding, tooling processes, and failure analysis. Your guidance will be critical to successful vehicle launches. Drive Industry-Wide Innovation: Represent Ford and collaborate with industry groups like the USCAR consortium to develop and align on the next generation of component requirements, shaping standards for the entire North American automotive industry. Champion Engineering Excellence: Rigorously apply robust design principles (DFMEA, DVP&R, Root Cause Analysis) to solve tough technical challenges, prevent failures, and continuously improve component and system robustness. Deliver Business Impact: Identify and execute Total Value Management (TVM) actions and drive a global commonality strategy for components to deliver significant improvements in manufacturing efficiency, supply chain simplicity, and cost savings. Qualifications You'll Have… Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. 5+ years of professional experience in a Design and Release (D&R) engineering role. Demonstrated experience with Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS) and related components (e.g., clips, retainers, fasteners, connectors). Proven experience acting as a primary technical liaison or manager for external suppliers. Even Better, You May Have… Deep technical knowledge of plastic materials, injection molding processes, and fastener design. Hands-on experience with vehicle assembly or EDS supplier manufacturing processes. Strong project management skills with a track record of leading cross-functional teams. Exceptional problem-solving skills and a disciplined approach to failure mode avoidance (FMA). Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification. A high degree of personal motivation, leadership, and excellent communication skills.
