Overview
Business and Data Utilization Analyst, Planning and Academic Resources is a full-time, exempt position at California State University San Marcos. The role involves leading analytical studies, collecting and analyzing data, and developing processes to support Academic Affairs leadership’s planning, management and decision-making. The position contributes to the success of the University by identifying key drivers influencing student success, business operations, and operational performance.
Position Summary Business and Data Utilization Analyst (Associate, Academic and Institutional Studies III). This is a full-time, exempt position which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.
Responsibilities
Provide expertise and leadership for analytical studies projects, including collecting and analyzing data and developing processes to support Academic Affairs planning and decision making.
Identify potential practices that may negatively impact the University and recommend creative solutions; translate business requirements into technical solutions; support and develop a full cycle of analytics/reporting projects; determine functional report requirements, develop technical specifications, and design, develop, test, and maintain reports and dashboards.
Collaborate with functional area leads, Institutional Planning and Analysis, and Instructional and Information Technology Services to provide data analysis and reporting for data-driven decision making; assist in developing campus-wide data strategy.
Review and identify key drivers of performance; propose topics for study and analysis; outline general project plans and escalate significant problems to leadership as appropriate.
Participate in planning, coordination, and implementation of campus-wide data and analytics products; liaise with campus offices to research, process, analyze, and review processes and reports.

Pay, Benefits, And Work Schedule Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $7,950 to $9,000 per month
CSU Classification Salary Range: $7,950 - $14,381 per month
This position is offered under the CSU classification and salary structure in effect at the time of posting. Please note that the CSU compensation system for this classification will transition to a step-based structure following implementation effective October 1, 2025. Employees in this classification will move to the step system (new classification) after hire, in accordance with CSU guidelines. Salary is commensurate with background and experience.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. 15 paid holidays are offered each year; 14 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
